CANFIELD

A multimillion-dollar assisted-living facility will open in the township late next year.

Mike Naffah, owner of Hampton Inn and Suites and Inner Circle Pizza in Canfield, said workers broke ground on the $6 million facility several weeks ago.

The Inn at Ironwood, 6699 Ironwood Blvd., will be just off U.S. Route 224 behind Inner Circle and across from the Hampton, said Canfield Zoning Inspector Dave Morrison.

Morrison said the permit allows housing for 64 residents.

Naffah said he doesn’t know how much a spot at the facility will cost. His business partner Ed Reese, another local developer, didn’t return calls for comment Friday afternoon.

Morrison touted the need for an assisted-living facility because it will be the first in Canfield Township.

“There are so many older residents who want to stay here in Canfield,” he said. “It’s an ideal situation, and I think it’s really going to work out well here.”

Naffah said the facility will take about a year to build and should be open in late 2012. He said he has received inquiries from people looking to move family members there.

Naffah’s goal is to introduce more retail and business ventures that Canfield doesn’t have already, starting with the assisted-living facility.

“They’re all basically going to feed off of each other,” he said.

Naffah said the long-term intent is to develop the area around Ironwood into a section of town that includes retail and more housing.

“The idea is that we’ll be able to have family stay at the hotel across the street so that out-of-town families can spend time together,” he said. “Eventually we’re going to have villas and other units in the back.”
