Nurses group opposes health overhaul repeal

Ohio’s largest nursing organization is urging voters not to opt the state out of the national health-care overhaul and says the move would pose unintended risks to nurses and public health programs.

The Ohio Nurses Association opposes a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would prohibit any law from forcing Ohioans to participate in a health-care system.

The nurses say the measure threatens school immunization programs, local funding for mental health and developmental disability programs and efforts to shut down so-called “pill mills.”

They say it also will confuse nurse licensing and registration.
