No other details were immediately available.

Great news. I bet they will sell hundreds of these.

Leave it to GM to make a dumb decision to make a diesel version. If diesel fuel were close to the same price as gasoline, that might come close to making sense. But it hasn't been close for several years now.

WOW, "NilesOhio", I'm glad you're not on my side when it comes to cheer leading. Good things keep coming to the valley and that's your comment. Maybe you should go help out at Occupy Youngstown, they don't know any better either. You'd be a good addition.

I guess NilesOhio does not understand that diesel gives you 20% more MPG than gasoline so the 5% premium you pay for diesel is well worth it.; and with the potential to make biodiesel from all of the waste cooking oil from America's fast food and junk food industries it is also a path to eliminating the need for foreign oil

Don't forget to factor in the much higher cost for a diesel vehicle.

There's a reason why very few diesel passenger vehicles are on the road. It's not worth it.

According to Edmunds...you know experts in the field not morons that like to talk more than think.

Operating Costs

The main attraction of diesels, at least in light-duty vehicles, is that they reduce fuel costs through increased efficiency. In the United States, however, the cost of diesel fuel has fluctuated widely in recent years, exceeding the cost of even premium gasoline at times. For consumers who choose to fill up with biodiesel, fuel costs will be even higher. In the long run, though, most diesel owners will enjoy a savings over comparable gasoline models and even some gas-electric hybrids. Another potential consideration for very high-mileage drivers is that diesel engines historically have a longer service life than gasoline motors due to their simpler design and more robust construction.

Diesel cars are not popular. They clatter and smoke and findiing gas stations that sell diesel requires some effort, especially while on a trip. Then you cannot "shop" the price, so you bite the bullet and pay the price. Starting a diesel engine requires a different set of procedures, which most car owners are not familiar with. I am assuming those of you who are promoting the diesel Cruze will buy one. I will not. I do have a diesel tractor, which is fine for a tractor, but not for a car.

Vindyak is in the dark ages....there is no "clatter", smoke or hard starting as the vehicles of decades ago. They actually emit less pollution than a standard gasoline engine. The oil companies jacked up the price of diesel to discourage more diesel cars and light duty trucks since the technology is here for cars getting well over 50mpg hwy. VW has been doing it for some time and the competition is smart to jump on the bandwagon....

What good is a diesel engine that will last for 20 years if the body will only last 10.

@anothermike..I beg to differ but I still see clattering diesel cars pull up to diesel pumps as I purchase fuel for my tractor. Some smoke more than others.

I assume anothermike has a diesel car that is in tip-top shape, so more power to him. I think if more poeple maintained their diesel vehicles better, we would not have this stigmatism.

I find the smelly and oily diesel fuel to be offensive and when you have a little spill, it does not evaporate, leaving an oily film that attracts dirt. It must be wiped up right away then throw away the towel, but you will still have that oily smell on your hands, so you will either need to go in and wash up, or carry hand wipes that do not always wipe up the diesel smell.

@tommytobasco - when the car falls apart you can mount the diesel engine on your lawn mower so you can continue paying $4.05 per gallon.

One of the original benefits to diesel fuel was the price, which was far less than gasoline. I have another tractor that is an old John Deere tractor that runs on multi-fuels and has 2 fuel tanks. One for gasoline to start the engine and one for diesel to run on. Gas is $3.24 per gallon, while diesel is $4.05.

Only in this area could positive news be met with such disappointment. Who cares how few or how many of these cars are assembled these are jobs we need not another loss of jobs. I mean, yeah let me stick with your theme. Send that car and jobs elsewhere who needs em. Yeah and while your at it send the plant somewhere where people need jobs we dont. I mean hey we already have a couple of prisons and other low paying industries we will get by. The biggest problem we have in this area is the Repuglicans hate the middle class and the Dumbocrats arent smart enough to do anything about them

Another good move by UNETHICAL GM. With diesel prices running 15% higher than gasoline, the diesel CURSE will have to get almost 50mpg just to break even with the gas model...LOL. BOYCOTT ALL GM vehicles untli the Delphi reitrees are treated EQUALLY by GM!

I'm glad for GM!!! This means job security for GM employees.
It is so sad that people can't find joy in good news, all they want to do is find negative thoughts. We all live in this area and should support our workers and our local companies!!!!

You are so right. The Delphi reitrees that GM & Obama CHOSE to discriminate agaisnt live in this Valley. Fellow residents of the Valley should demand that this injustice be reversed. Rewarding the unethical company that perpetrated this by buying their products is hurting not only YOUR neighbors, but the Valley as a whole, as well. When GM does the right thing, buy their products. Until they do DO NOT REWARD THEM!

Wow!!!! I'm sorry for what happened to the Delphi Retirees, but that is not going to change my opinion on GM and their success. You can keep on hating them and I'm going to keep on rooting for them. As long as they keep jobs in the valley and keep people working, I'm going to keep on buying their products!!!

Not against people working in this Valley. Our beef is with GM, just like if the UAW went on stike against GM to stand up for what is right. When GM does the right thing, the boycott will immediately end, just like a strike does. So, in your mind it's OK if a company screws thousands in your own community. You'll keep supporting them. What a vision you have of "community" WOW!!!!

By the time you pay the higher cost for the diesel version of the car, added with the extra expense of the diesel fuel, this car will not be a bargain.

I am not against GM or Lordstown. I own a GM vehicle and have always supported GM. I am simply stating my personal opinion about diesel engines in cars. They are more expensive to purchase and their fuel costs more. I do not see production of diesel engines lasting too long with the Cruze, which happens to be a great success just as it is.

Diesel model is fine idea... Long overdue.

BUT...

What we are sitting on locally is natural gas.

Why not produce a multifuel vehicle or dual fuel gasoline / CNG?

Only real advantage diesel provides normally is stronger and better made engine. Do I expect that to be true of a GM product? Never has been.

Why not make a cruze/volt version. Drop the price to about $23k and people might actually buy it. Great move GM, you thought this out well...
