YOUNGSTOWN — Reverend John Warner has resigned as pastor of Sts. Philip and James Parish, as a result of a recently reported allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor more than 30 years ago at St. Edward Parish in Youngstown.
Warner has denied the allegations, but after a thorough investigation, the Diocesan Review Board concluded the allegation was credible and recommended Father Warner be placed on administrative leave.
“The Diocese of Youngstown continues to be committed to protecting children and helping to heal victims of abuse. I am deeply sorry for the pain suffered by survivors of abuse due to actions of some members of the clergy, because nothing is more important than protecting our children,” said Bishop George V. Murry, in a press release.
The Diocese of Youngstown reported the allegations to the proper authorities and encourages anyone who has experiences sexual abuse by clergy or others associated with the Church to notify local authorities or contact the diocese’s victim’s assistance coordinator, Nancy Yuhasz at 330-744-8451.
A press conference the diocese’s conference room at 225 Elm Street will begin at 11 a.m.

This futher underlines that no one with deviant tendencies be allowed around children . The so called sexual revolution in this country is a plague that can be eliminated by not allowing the indoctrination of our young .
Kick open the doors and throw them out, one by one as they are found out.

Church officials can not always be trusted to have victims and our children’s best interest at heart.
We applaud this brave victim for speaking up and taking action to expose the truth and possibly protecting other children..
Hopefully others who may have knowledge or been harmed by Fr John Warner will have the courage to come forward and report it to police, not church officials.
Those who have been harmed by this priest or any clergy, teacher, or employee in the Youngstown diocese should keep in mind that silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.
(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 10,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is www.SNAPnetwork.org )

Father for I have sinned...
When will the Catholic church revert back to a more normal situation for it's priests?
Celibacy over the years has created much of the sexual dysfunction the church has experienced amongst the ranks of priests.
The Catholic Church many moons ago allowed priests to be married. However, the church didn't want to pay to support their families, so they have since required priests to act superhuman and unnatural.
The problem with mankind is that deviancy has been legitimized and supported . This garbage has been put out with entertainment media and glorified . The Catholic Church has no monopoly on this garbage . . . .. Recently we had the couple from Warren on the news who molested their very young daughter and recorded it . No great outcry occured over their actions .
Yeah, well that couple, I missed the media piece on them here in the Vindy. They recorded it too? Good luck defending them whoever those lawyers are.
No the Catholic church doesn't have a monopoly over child abuse. But it is in limited company in how priests are treated. What other religions force abstinence on the church leaders?
Every religion I am familiar with allows marriage of their priesthood or equivalent.
Clearly, if we combine celibacy with today's far bent liberal anything goes lack of culture it's simple to see how the collar could end up on the floor bedside.
This stuff was going on back in the 1950's, 1960's, etc. It just was teenage (legal age) females and parishioner wives having flings with the priest gone wild.
ghostofjohnyoung,
Celibacy, allowing priests to marry, and pedophilia are three separate and distinct issues. Pedophilia is a perversion. Do you believe that, just because a priest would be allowed to marry that his perverse sexual desire of a young person would go away? It is possible for men to not marry and live a celibate life. The vast majority of priests live this way all the time. It is the sick few that have caused the problem, plus the bishops who have tried to sweep this problem under the rug.
If celibacy was the problem they would go after women, not children.
Most priest have many women hanging around them. I am sure if they wanted a grown woman, they could have one.
This nation is being overwhelmed with deviancy . how does it spread ? BY INDOCTRINATION ! People sure arent born this way . Eliminating contact with the young by those already infected is the best defence .
I am a male and a survivor of sexual abuse. I am now strong, ready, willing and able to fight the fight with those who choose to do so. Watch the local SNAP website for upcoming support meetings in the Youngstown area, http://www.youngstowntruth.org/
Healing is the best revenge!!!
The diocese list of those with accusations against them is currently incomplete. They know who they are!!!
Married Priests?
What makes anyone think that a married Priest would not have the same problems non-Priest males have in their marriages. Chances are that there is a much higher level of celebacy in regular marriage than in the priesthood.
One of the major problems leading to divorce is lack of satisfying sex.
Please, if you have been abused by this priest, a deacon, teacher, employee or anyone else who works or may have worked for the diocese in the past, NO MATTER HOW LONG AGO THE ABUSE TOOK PLACE, report it to the authorities, NOT CHURCH OFFICIALS!!! Then come to a meeting and let yourself be healed!! http://www.youngstowntruth.org/
It's all about money! 30 years ago,and now it's an issue???
The issue isn't the statistical comparison of lay teachers vs. the priesthood.
All religions hold their leadership to higher standards. Sometimes we are really let down. When someone takes the Catholic vow of priesthood it's up there and beyond where Catholic church holds marriage.
I grew up in the Catholic church, loosely. I attended one of their schools for a few years. I saw the dysfunction as an outsider of sorts.
/ "Celibacy, allowing priests to marry, and pedophilia are three separate and distinct issues." /
Yes, these are three issues. Depending on the person, they may or may not be deeply interrelated.
It's widely known that the Catholic priesthood has been a place where homosexuals who had faith tried to regulate their behavior.
At ground level, what normal functional man wants to become unnatural and reject normal human functioning conduct like attraction to the female gender?
Clearly, most men would NEVER join the priesthood based on that stipulation alone. Priest ranks were majorly reduced by the 1980's. In order to find new priests, the old guard let folks on the fringe into the leadership.
Pedophilia has proven prevalent due to the attracting of this reduced male group where some are attempting to self medicate their homosexuality.
Now, homosexuals are not pedophiles, but some are.
Isn't it widely known and recognized in society that older men often find younger women attractive? Wasn't it normal not so long ago for 13 year olds to be married and with child?
Well, the same appreciation and longing of youthfulness applies to many homosexuals.
If the Catholic church would allow priests to marry as they have in the distant past and as other Christian sects do, the number of struggling homosexual priests would be reduced.
With that reduction, we'd see some reduction in the same-sex pedophilia activity in the church.
That would solve part of the problem and the most offensive, as according to the Catholic Church, a homosexual isn't supposed to be up on the pulpit or leading a parish.
Agree with the observation about the 30 year span between victimization and today. What are these folks waiting for? It's a he said, she said no real evidence matter. Very big waste of resources.
No one should bash Romney or anyone else for adhering to a certain church. Most of them are just shades of gray in difference.
Religions have been given far too much love considering their mass sexual issues. The Catholic church has been the pinhead for the past decade or more. Plenty of priests gone wild who avoided prison because the church muscled the society leadership into hands off position.
It is entirely stupid that these victims decide to come forward decades later and we expect to prosecute someone though. There is no evidence to support most of these claims.
