Ohio puts obese Cleveland child in foster care
Associated Press
CLEVELAND
An Ohio third-grader weighing more than 200 pounds has been taken from his family and placed into foster care when county social workers said his mother wasn’t doing enough to control his weight.
The Plain Dealer reports that the 8-year-old is considered severely obese and at risk for diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
The Ohio Health Department estimates more than 12 percent of third-graders statewide are severely obese. The removal of the Cleveland child is the first state officials can recall of a child being put in foster care for a strictly weight-related issue.
Lawyers for the mother say the county is overreaching in taking the child. They say the medical problems the boy is at risk for do not yet pose an imminent danger to his health.

wow, this mother should be in trouble for endangering her child.
Have all medical issues been ruled out? I saw a case on Mystery Diagnosis where the child had an inherited condition where there was no "full" signal from the stomach & the child had an incredible appetite. He was actually dumpster diving for food when he was out of the house. Once diagnosed he had to receive counseling & parents have to keep food under lock & key.
This is cruel and uncalled for and not short of just one of the despicable acts that Child Protective Services will sink to in trying to put as many children as possible into fostercare. Look at my situation where social workers intentionally lied under oath, collaborating against me where I wouldn't submit to their corrupt and criminal demands and put my son in the full custody of his drug addicted, abusive, and alcoholic father. I am a victim of Child Protective Services as is my son now 15 years old who will willingly tell you his story regarding the corruption in Child Protective Services. After all, think about it, if they're not putting children in fostercare, how can the state, county, or whatever verify requesting more monies for their next year's fiscal budget, and how else can the corrupt social workers claim that they are doing their jobs!? Think on that if you will. Furthermore, how cruel to remove a child from his home, mother, and entire family right before Christmas time. Such venom is not a stranger to Child Protective Services.
Betcha he's on welfare. McDonald's puts on the weight.
How do welfare and McDonald's go hand in hand? Some people will say the dumbest things in an attempt to put someone else down. I don't think they distribute McDonald's coupons with each welfare check.
Social workers do not enter into the field of Social Work with the intent of removing children from their homes.
track all of the snacks -junk food people buy with SNAP cards- ...Just eat out each first of the month and see the heaps of fatso WMD'S attacking the a u c e buffets. Case Closed...
track every item this loser WMD bought with the Ohio Directional card -no doubt it would produce results of the typical wmd diet plan.
Klacy,
How is trying to save a child cruel and uncalled for. I am not a fan of some of the things that Childrens Services does, but this seems ok. I am sure the schools and other social agencies tried their best and this was the last resort.
Its amazing how many people marry a mentally ill, drunk, drug addict and say they never knew.
klacey, this is not about your situation which i have no interest in reading your one sided links. This is about an 8 year old who is 200lbs. Social Workers are some of the most overworked and underpaid people in this country and you want to claim they take children to request more money? That statement alone tells me you know nothing, and tells me what kind of person you are. Should they have waited until after Christmas and allow the child to gain more weight? I guess you do not have this childs best interest in mind and that tells me all i need to know about your situation.

Your statement is sooooooo right on.
@ klaceyjsmith:
"...and put my son in the full custody of his drug addicted, abusive, and alcoholic father."
Hey, you made the decision to marry the guy AND have a child with him (your former husband whom you say is a, "...drug addicted, abusive, and alcoholic father."
Yet you are blaming the decision of Child Protective Services for interfering in an apparent over the top dysfunctional family situation.
Sounds to me like you have a history of making bad decisions. Sounds to me like you always blame others for your problems.
Hope you are staying sober.
God speed.
