Store workers held hostage in Liberty

Published: Sat, November 26, 2011 @ 9:53 p.m.

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Two robbers spent 30 minutes inside the Family Dollar store in the Union Square Plaza on Gypsy Lane Friday night, holding two employees hostage while waiting for one of them to take money from the store’s safe.

The two men, one white and one black, eventually fled out the back door of the store with the cash, calling out “Thank you from the South Side Boys, b----es.”

The men arrived at the front door of the store around 9 p.m., just before the two female employees were about to lock up, pushed their way in with guns and demanded money from the safe.

The robbers smashed both cordless store phones to prevent any 911 calls,

police said.

Both men were wearing coverings over their faces, and each was wearing cream-colored rubber gloves.

For the complete story, read Sunday's Vindicator or Vindy.com.

Good to see all of that south side crime making its way to the northern suburbs. Sigh. Mahoning and Trumbull counties are freakin doomed.

Refreshing... Ebony and Ivory? Are we to except that The Vindy will now report the the color of the perps in all future criminal stories? Coverings over their faces? Cream colored gloves? Are the southside BOYS equal opportunity employers?

self-defense laws need to be changed, store owners need to have the ability to train employees with weapons, and not be held liable for shooting these varmits.

Wow....a description of the cockroaches. South Side Boys...oh here is where you wish they were gunned down point blank as they were leaving. Real tough BOYS holding 2 women hostage and robbing a Family Dollar. These little cowards are the trash of the Earth. Pitiful excuse of animal DNA. I'm sure there Mommy's are so proud of them.

Cultural diversity and teamwork equal success . Working together makes things happen . This duo will enjoy the holidays with the ability to purchase plenty of street medication for personal use and to resell .

IF & only if the community & law enforcement seek a reduction of this gererational violence, there are methods:
1. Ship all the gang members, all the trash walking the streets-ship them out of this area. Stop paying for their housing, their food...give them nothing that would keep them occupying our neighborhoods.
2. Drug test them upon their monthly arrest or when they arrive for their government checks. Positive drug test mandates no government checks.
3. No welfare, no checks for any pregnant girl on drugs. Cut them off immediately & they will move away.
4. All arrested pay the court, jail & prison expense. Take away everything they own-everything.
DO YOU WANT CRIME REDUCED OR NOT?

Agree totally with you Stan. These PUNK ASS so called men are going to do just that. And as far as them calling those ladies b---hes, maybe they were raised by Daddy calling Mommy that so this is all they know!!! I hope they were on camera and were caught. I haven't read any updates. Whitesabbath, I am also agreeing with your comment. Store managers need to have a weapon in their store for the employees. I myself have spoken to some Family Dollar employees who have told me their chain of stores is terrible to work for and has no consideration for employees. When it comes down to my life, take whatever you want for your THUG LIFE and leave the door. That store is not worth their lives and neither is the job!! Now ...these ladies will need counseling and Family Dollar needs to pay for it. Period.

So where are the police? security?

When the poverty rate is at 50%, we can expect more crime. Put people to work and crime drops.

Excuses.....These sorry a!@# punks would never work a honest day in there life. Robbing and taking whats others is the only job they know. To stop them is to put them six feet under or prison.

Perhaps the next time they could get their gloves a little better color coordinated . Image and identity are everything .

This seems a little too descriptive in color and conversation. Perhaps it could be an inside job just as well as a throw off to look for the suspects on the South Side. One black, one white - yet they were cream colored gloves, and coverings over their face. Hmmmm

Many stores now have safes with timers on them, so any attempt to open them will require waiting a certain amount of time before it can be opened. For the sake of protecting cash, this places the safety of the employees at extreme risk. This shows all of us how un-important employees are to a corporation, rather than the cash they are required to defend.

Corporations could and should redesign their store closing procedures and security to enable employees to alert police with silent alarms and better security cameras. This will not happen until someone is killed or until more events like this continue to occur. Shoplifting is still the greatest loss to corporations, far more than from robberies and it seems to go hand-in-hand with the territory. Of course, if these attempts continue to occur, or if shoplifting gets out of control, the corporation will simply close the store permanently, as they have plenty of stores opening in other nearby areas.

Probably on drugs, or stealing to buy more drugs.
