Canfield man charged with threatening U.S. Rep. Johnson

Published: Thu, November 24, 2011 @ 12:21 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

A 63-year-old Canfield man has been indicted on one count of making interstate threatening communications, directed at U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of Poland, R-6th.

James Shuba is accused of making a telephone call in late June from Ohio to the District of Columbia and, upon reaching an employee of Congress, stated in part: “Bill Johnson is a [expletive] and I hate him. I wanna kill him. He wants to end Social Security and Medicare. I hope he dies. He should be dead,” according to the indictment.

The indictment was announced Tuesday by Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.

I don't condone death threats or threats to cause physical harm BUT it seams to me that there are quite a few LIARS holding offices in all sectors of the government. They tell you what they think you want to hear to get elected but once they are in office they do whatever they want. These liars holding these elected positions are doing so because voters were con'd into believing that they would be represented fairly and justly. That's not happening in any branch of the government and people are getting ticked off. These elected "officials" need to stop trying to play big brother and start doing the job that they were elected to do! If things don't change in this government there will be more people like Mr Shuba and I'd be willing to bet that there are a few of them that are just crazy enough to carry out some of their thoughts and emotions. These politicians need to understand that by doing what they want, they are messing with peoples livelihood and some people aren't making it on what they get now. It will drive people to do crazy things! Mark my words!

Wow! wake up folks. Anyone that's been paying attention to what the Neo Republicans including Bill's agenda is; need only look up their voting history. We, the people, in his view are the top 1%. I will just bet that Bill's staffers have gotten a lot worse phone calls than Mr. Shuba's call. This is just a man who has worked all his life to provide for his family and who just has gotten caught up in all the wrongs that have not been righted and won't be until we get rid of most of the incumbents including Bill.

As I recall timmie ryan wouldn't even show his face to his constituents when he received threats because he was shoviing obama care down our throats.

All I kept hearing from timmie was how obama care would bend the cost curve downward. Now my insurance premiums keep going up as have other health care costs.

timmie knew at the time he was wrong as did the populace. He ran away afraid of being attacked in the political sense.

Rep. Johnson & the Republican Party want to save Medicare & Social Security before it is bankrupted but that is twisted & distorted by libs. They'd rather play politics even though the end is near.
Shuba is an idiot reacting to the class warfare propagated from Obama and the Democratic Party. He should be checked out and if found harmless, our tax money shouldn't be wasted charging him.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Vote Johnson out - you don't have to kill him to get rid of him. The Republicans have pissed off the seniors with their medicare and social security proposed cuts while allowing the millionaires to keep their Bush tax cuts budget proposal. I understand his anger, I don't like it either, but threatening to kill Johnson is the wrong. Just vote him out. The GOP will be losing big in 2012 over these issues.

Republicans dont want to save social security. They want to do away with it and make it each persons responsibility to provide for themselves in their old age. This is a unrealistic view and one that would sent millions of people below the poverty level. If politicans were serious about fixing social security they would eliminate the cap on wages subject to the payroll tax which is currently $106,000.This would fix the shortfall and not affect most people because most workers make less than this amount but since everyone in Congress makes more than this it probably will not happen

Since when do you think the govt. owes you anything? Most of you dummies think you are entitled and if you knew anything SS is a tax. that money we are paying into social security should be going into a private retirement account. At least we would know where the money is unlike now where we are wondering where the money went.

And some nut-job Teabagger can attend an Obama event with a sidearm strapped to his leg while the 'Secret Service' throws up it's hands in quiet resignation. How about a little perspective here. They pepper spray OWS protesters while Fox News sends out news crews to cover 2 or 3 Tea party types in a back yard throwing a fit and label them 'hero'.We live in a police state controlled by the right. Obama is the most threatened President ever and even gets his home shot at. Come November 2012 Johnson will be booted from office by a vote of the people and relegated to the dustbin of history; a minor player with no real record of accomplishment.

If we're going to start arresting people for these type remarks I hope they start enforcing fairly. What I read from the right is truly frightening. More than a few 'righties' will be looking out from behind the wrong side of the bars if by some small chance the law is enforced fairly.

paulydel and republican kool-aid drinkers. if you want to gamble your money in the stock market, and think its more secure than the soc sec system, go ahead, you can. its called a 401-k. Knowing where the money is instead of where it went? I know where all my 401-k went, to wall st bonuses. You want soc sec to be private? Yeah, sure. Its gonna disappear by paying Newts lobbying fees, like the $30,000/month from freddie mac.

I was watching C-Span when Dave Drier offered to yield to any Dem that would say when the Republicans said they wanted to cut SS. NOT one dem said anything. The dems keep saying they won't let the republicans cut SS when the republicans never said that they would.

I remember the Reagan/Mondale debate when Mondale tried to scare the old people about Republicans cutting SS. Reagan told him he was lying and just trying to scare people. Mondale stood there like an idiot, knowing that he was just making stuff up.

Dems always repeat lie after lie. I think it was Goebels that said to tell a lie often enough and people will believe it. Just like Newts first wife. She wanted the divorce, never had cancer, still alive and well, but the dems keep telling the same old story.

Dem states are big on welfare; Repub states big on jobs. Texas, a Repub state leads the nation in jobs. You Dems gotta man up and take care of yourselves instead of expecting others to feed you. One day you'll realize that socialism (which is what the Democratic Party has become) sucks.

Go get 'em Stan; don't take any crap from these lefty weaklings.

DB,

In fact, “Texas has done worse than the rest of the country since the peak of national unemployment in October 2009.” The unemployment rate in Texas has been steadily increasing throughout the recession, and went from 7.7 to 8.2 percent while the state was supposedly creating 40 percent of all the new jobs in the U.S.

Clearly, there is no miracle for Texas here. While over 126,000 net jobs were created in Texas over the last two and a half years, the labor force expanded by over 437,000, meaning that overall Texas has added unemployed workers at a rate much faster than it has created jobs. And although states like Michigan have lost jobs (29,200 since February 2009), the state’s labor force has shrunk by over 185,000 since then. As a result, while there are fewer jobs, there are significantly less workers looking for them.

You are right jerat. republicans dont want to cut soc sec. That would be stupid, political suicide. What they want to cut is entitlements, which is cantor-ese for soc sec and medicare. If they use the words soc sec and medicare, the retired folks in the tea party, well, they wouldnt want their cola's reduced. So they call it cutting entitlements so the simple minded folk buy into it.

25db(276 comments)posted 6 months ago

Entitlements are what bankrupted General Motors. Entitlements are what put Ohio $8 billion in the hole. Entitlements are what allowed the Ytown police chief Jimmy Hughes to retire at the age of 56 with a $120,000 a year pension, a $563,000 severance check, and allows him to double dip his way back into our pockets for the sheriff's job. Entitlements allow police & fire to retire with 80% os their top pay at the healthy age of 48. Entitlements are why we have 34 retired cops working as security guards at the courthouse and each is paid over $100,000 a year between their retirement pay and $40k security guard pay. Yep, those entitlements are the way to go, eh union boys? You clowns think that entitlement money just appears from nowhere. 80% of our budget (tax money) pays for entitlements instead of fixing roads and helping the community.

AACitizen, Texas's unemployment is severely impacted by Mexicans illegally crossing the border. Texas has created more jobs than the rest of the states combined yet Obama refuses to stem the tide of illegals pouring across the border. Without doubt, our president is bent on destroying this country. Although he is not an intelligent guy, even he cannot be as clueless as his actions suggest. Obama's Change You Can Believe In is to change our country from a capitalistic society to a socialistic one, as in Europe. All of Europe is going bankrupt and we are next in line. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, pensions, etc will all be gone when & if this idiot bankrupts us. BTW it is the intent of George Soros to destroy America. Soros funded Obama's presidential campaign and he controls Obama. Soros, one of the wealthiest men in the world, also owns controlling interest in our mainstream media which is why Obama is never brought to bear for his socialistic actions and his anti-American activities.

db,
437,000 move to Texas and 126,000 net jobs. Don't blame the Mexicans for unemployement. Blame the business owners who hire the illegals and not the legals.

LOok at the facts man, Oct 2008. Bush was Pres. It was Bush who did the bailouts, QUIT blaming Obama.

I just wish I could meet one conservative who actually knew what socialism actually is just once. DB, you said if the government invested $1 trillion in the stock market it wouldn't have crashed. Guess what, that's government intervention fixing the economy. Isn't that what you call socialism? It's not real socialism, it's corporate socialism which seems to be okay in this country. Socialism is good enough for the wealthy but not the "common" man in America.
