Occupy Youngstown protestors remain, tent gone

YOUNGSTOWN — About a dozen city police officers and firefighters confiscated a tent, burn barrel, three chairs and several wooden signs this morning from the Occupy Youngstown site in Central Square.

There were four Occupy Youngstown members at the location when police and fire arrived around 7:30 a.m. today, said Luke Walker, who was among the four.

An officer gave the group a five-minute warning that the items would be confiscated, Walker said.

The Occupy members offered no resistance, and the police and firefighters were respectful saying they were only doing their jobs, Walker said.

Occupy Youngstown has no plans to leave the location, said Thomas Sabatini, a member.

Members will meet later today to decide whether to put up another tent and replace the confiscated items, he said.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this continues again and again” Sabatini said. “We have the right to remain in a public space and express public opinion.”

Police Chief Rod Foley had ordered the group to remove the tent, barrel and other items by midnight Thursday, citing city-ordinance violations.

Occupy Youngstown members refused. Police and firefighters — the latter to properly extinguish the burn barrel — arrived at 7:30 a.m. today and removed the items.

The early morning raid . . .. What next ? Is the occupation over ? What is the goal ?

This is America's "Greatest Generation." Forget those who answered the call to end the spread of National Socialism (Nazism). These selfless souls of OWS want to work hard to better themselves and the land they love. They are intellectuals (as noted in this video) who are so inclusive that even the KKK and David Duke has supported them. Yes, they are anti-Semites, but what's wrong with some good ol' hate? Redistribution (stealing property) is fair, right?! Unless it's from OWS to those less fortunate...like feeding the homeless. Such a strong work ethic! Such virtuous folks! The Greatest Generation indeed!!

When will you naysayers get out from behind your computer screens and come down to Federal square and see what Occupy Youngstown is really about.
It is easy for anyone to find videos on youtube that make people demonstrating for the rights and freedom look like something that American's don't want to identify with. I could give you a dozen videos of crazed Teapublicans, Paulitarians, and religious fundamentalists that want to turn America into a Theocracy.

And BTW we at OY do feed the homeless.

Demonstrating for "rights and freedom"? What "rights and "freedom"? Such as a

"Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment."


"Free college education."


"Universal Single Payer Health care."

Those aren't rights of freedoms. Those are entitlements. The current entitlements are being paid for (ie, stolen from) future generations. More entitlements steal more money from people guilty of not being born yet.

It's really all about wanting other people's stuff, and wanting Big Brother to steal it for you, eh?

You can try to incite hate of successful corporations all you want, but it is corporations that produce food and clothing and build homes.

BTW, it is the US Government that bailed out Wall Street and the US Government that created sub-prime loans. Why are you not in front of the White House? (Answer: it's all about what the US government can steal for you).

Oh get off it, ALL of you. If you get a copy of the original permit that was issued allowing the "occupation" in the square, you'll see that it was issued to the EXCLUSION of any tents or encampment apparatus. READ it. By doing so, these people have expressly and purposely broken the terms and conditions of the permit, and CAN be vacated from the premises.

Now I'm betting that it's going to be a cold day in H*** before City Hall will issue further permits of this kind.

A challenge:

By definition (provided below), a more accurate name for OWS would be "The Parasites." If you dispute this, please tell me how OWS is about giving, producing, helping and creating rather than "occupying", using, consuming or receiving.

I'm not sure where you are going with that Howard.
Do you believe that you don't have the right to Life? Do you believe that you don't have the right to Liberty? Do you not have the right to pursue happiness?

It is interesting that you include the part of the Declaration that mentions Liberty, when the definition of liberty includes:

"freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice."

That means the Freedom to succeed and the freedom to fail. That means the freedom to earn a ton of $$$$ honestly and fairly and then not have it confiscated and redistributed. To some, success is a life of happiness and love and money is secondary. That's the beauty of Liberty, you "pursue happiness" as you define it.

Of course, the parasites/OWS folks want stuff paid for by others. They want less Liberty.

I agree with you about the "Right of the People to alter or to abolish it." We are two countries pretending to be one and the best outcome would be a peaceful separation. Liberal/socialist "America" more resembles Greece than the America of fortitude, self-reliance and Liberty that we once were and could be again.

I posted the dictionary definition of liberty.

You are changing the subject. The parasites/OWS mob does not represent the unemployed, although they try to. The video I showed demonstrates that the parasites/OWS do not want jobs, and most of the unemployed do very badly.

Are "OCCUPY" members the new "ACORNS"? I am a T.E.A. party member, we would not have set up a "tent city" of course, but had we, would we have been as coddled as those whiners? TEA party members are not wealthy, but we do believe in working for a living and supporting the Constitution of the United States. We also are very dedicated to the "hand-up" not "hand-out" mentality of the OWS. The mayor was right, they had a permit for October 15th and they should have been limited to that one day.
