910th Airlift Wing to get new commander

Air Force Col. Reinhard Schmidt will assume command of the 910th Airlift Wing during a ceremony scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

Schmidt, who was promoted to colonel Feb. 6, 2004, will assume command from Col. Fritz Linsenmeyer, who has been assigned to Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. Linsenmeyer became commander of the 910th on April 11, 2010.

Schmidt, most recently director of Installations and Mission Support at the Air Force Reserve Command at Robins AFB, is a master navigator with 4,147 flight hours in a variety of aircraft.

A 1982 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Schmidt’s military training includes graduating from the Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College, all at Maxwell AFB, Ala., and the Air Force Weapons School Nellis AFB, Nev.

Schmidt’s assignments include commander of the 934th Operations Group, 934th Airlift Wing, Minneapolis-St. Paul IAP/ARS, Minn.; director of operations, 22nd Air Force, Headquarters 22nd Air Force, Dobbins ARB, Ga.; commander, 913th Airlift Wing, Willow Grove ARS, Pa.; commander, 914th Airlift Wing, Niagara Falls ARS, N.Y.; and deputy director of Manpower, Personnel, and Services, Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB, Ga.

Among his major awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Aerial Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with valor device and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award.

Schmidt, a recipient of the Maj. Gen. Tom E. Marchbanks Jr. Award for Heroism, has also received the Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medals from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
