Boys soccer loses in Semi-Finals

The Boardman high school boys soccer team lost in the District Semi-Finals to Canton GlenOak 3-1.

After trailing 2-0 at halftime, senior Christian Silvestri scored the lone goal for the Spartans.

Silvestri was assisted by junior Nico DiIanni. Junior Anthony Calautti had six saves for the Spartans who are now 8-5-5 on the season.

Boardman Glenwood wins Spartan Bowl

Boardman Glenwood completed a perfect 8-0 season with a 28-0 shutout victory over Boardman Center in the annual Spartan Bowl.

After the BGMS defense recovered a fumble, Jamison Lytle put Glenwood on the board 6-0 with a 21-yard-touchdown run. Preston Stitt scored from the 1 yard line in the second quarter to give BGMS a 12-0 halftime lead.

Stitt also scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter with Lynn Bowden adding the two-point conversion to increase the score to 20-0.

Bowden capped the scoring early in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard scamper, followed by Stitt with a two-point conversion to seal the 28-0 win.

YSU baseball camp

The Youngstown State baseball staff will host a camp for boys and girls aged 6-13 on Dec. 29-30 at the new Watson and Tressel Training Site on YSU’s campus.

All aspects and fundamentals of baseball will be taught, including hitting, fielding, base-running and the mental part of the game.

East Ohio Volleyball Club tryouts Nov. 13

Tryouts will be held for the East Ohio Volleyball Club on Nov. 13 and 20 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Warren YMCA, 210 High Street, Warren.

YMCA offers Youth Sports Program

The Fall Youth Fundamental Basketball League has begun. The league runs through Dec. 17 and is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 15. Registration fees are $48 for YMCA members and $68 for all others.

The YMCA is also offering a Fall Sunday Team “Select” Basketball League. This league will conclude with a league tournament on Dec. 18. The “Select” league is open to boys in fourth, fifth and sixth grade and girls in fifth and sixth grade. Registration fees are $42 for YMCA members and $57 for all others.

Katie Griswold earns all-Horizon League

Junior forward Katie Griswold, a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High and now a member of the Butler women’s soccer team earned All-Horizon League recognition. Griswold earned first-team honors for the second straight season.

She has six goals this year and ranks second on the team with 13 points. Griswold scored three goals against Horizon League opponents this season.
