Jim Tressel has resigned as football coach at Ohio State.
Here's the press release from the university:
The Ohio State University announced today that it has accepted the resignation of Jim Tressel as head coach of its football program. Luke Fickell will serve as interim head coach for the 2011-2012 football season. Recruitment for a new head coach – which is expected to include external and internal candidates – will not commence until the conclusion of the 2011-2012 season.
“In consultation with the senior leadership of the Board of Trustees, I have been actively reviewing matters attendant to our football program, and I have accepted Coach Tressel’s resignation,” said President E. Gordon Gee. “The University’s enduring public purposes and its tradition of excellence continue to guide our actions.”
Jim Tressel said, “After meeting with University officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach. The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”
Athletics Director Gene Smith said, “We look forward to refocusing the football program on doing what we do best – representing this extraordinary University and its values on the field, in the classroom, and in life. We look forward to supporting Luke Fickell in his role as our football coach. We have full confidence in his ability to lead our football program.”

Let's be fair to Jim and Ellen "The good that a man does is often intered with his bones" WS
Columbus must think everything that comes from Youngstown is questionable at best......
Ya lefty, bring him back and he can jump in bed with Betras, Traficant, the Cafaros, Antonini and the rest of the valley gang.
Cap,you forgot Dann.....
I had to pinch myself when I read that Jim Tressel resigned from Ohio State football.
I don't think that the football world will ever find a more devout Christian and a coach devoted to the well being of his players. He was really more than a coach.
I wish Jim well in the future and hope and pray that he will will be back in coaching in the near future.
The pressure of the University Presdident, the athletic director, the alumni and the fans to win at all costs preyed on his mind and changed him to do some things that were not Jim.
Gos Bless you Jim. We love you.
No Tressel = No championships for YSU or OSU ever or ever again. It's a shame. I'm not sure how much of this is people trying to save their own skin or real. I really don't think either program will win another championship in my lifetime and hopefully I'll be here another thirty. I had faith in him but not the programs.
The saying goes," If you ain;t cheating, you ain't trying" applies here. He was cheating! Its nothing new, he did similar things at YSU. Winning makes people look the other way. However, Coach Tressell does keep the overall best interest of the high character kids in his programs. Its just the 'scum' players he tries to reform knifes him in the back.
Jim Tressel is not alone in this shameful mess and should not be the only person to step down. Gordon Gee and Gene Smith should also resign. By looking the other way, they contributed in allowing student-athletes to circumvent rules and regulations for personal gain. This has become a serious black eye for Ohio and Jim Tressel should not be the only one to take the blame. If Gee and Smith do not resign, then the board should fire them both.
