The students at Union Preschool spend about half their day at school and the other half spending time with their family. On May 4, teacher Joy Bucci decided to bring these two worlds together by inviting moms, grandmas, and aunts to her classroom for a special Mother’s Day Tea with the preschoolers.
The special ladies were welcomed into Bucci’s classroom and were treated to a performance of songs celebrating love and family. The preschoolers also sang the song “My Girl” by The Temptations, changing around the meaning a bit to make “my girl” into “my mom.”
“Most of our preschoolers get dropped off by their moms each morning, but this visit is still so exciting for the kids. We’ve been talking about our tea and drawing pictures of mom nonstop for weeks, so today was a very big deal,” Bucci said of the event.
After the performance by the preschoolers, the kids gifted their moms with a photo of their preschool class and a white pillowcase that each student decorated with permanent markers.
Guest Leslie Eckman thoroughly enjoyed her time with her daughter, Bridgett.
“I have three other kids, but Bridgett is my youngest, and my last. Because of that, I take special time out and enjoy every minute with her. This has been a really special morning,” Eckman shared.
Krissy Rotunno has had three kids who have been students at Union Preschool and each has participated in the Mother’s Day Tea. While enjoying some special time with her daughter, Samantha, she nonetheless had a suggestion for Bucci.
“I have three pillowcases from my other Mother’s Day Teas. I think you should decorate sheets next time, so then I can have a whole bed set at my house,” Rotunno said with a laugh.
