Betras wants to debate merits of SB5

Published: Thu, May 5, 2011 @ 4:51 p.m.

Mahoning County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe is declining a request from his Democratic counterpart to publicly debate the merits of a new state law that severely restricts the collective-bargaining rights of public employees.

Democratic Chairman David Betras made the challenge today in an email sent first to the local media before Munroe.

Betras said he’d be willing to debate Munroe anywhere the latter wanted.

Munroe said he won’t debate Betras on the issue now, and declined to say if he would debate the Democratic chairman if a referendum to overturn the law gets on the November ballot.

Mr. Betras, why is it that every time you speak you spew venom? I’m sorry but you have become an embarrassment to this area. This area can’t afford another loud mouth. All you are doing is hurting us not helping. Haven’t you learned anything from the past, i.e. Trafficant and Dann? Please show some tact. All the anger that you have does nothing but divide us, once again I see division between republicans and democrats. We are a community first.

So you criticize mcssport and jessiedavid for coming on here and calling someone names, then you proceed to call the governor "Kasuck", republicans "morons", other posters "hillbillies" and "jerk-offs". Then, you conclude by telling me to vote against some guy named "Idiotic Bill". What's he running for?

I would surmise that you are a public employee that got his job because he knew someone and is now complaining because the rest of the public has figured out what sweet deals you have been given by government management. Maybe instead of debating the already passed bill we should debate the merits of Dave Betras. Now go away so I can enjoy my PBR while I practice my guzzintas down by the cement pond.

mccsports -

You might want to tell your wife who is in the medical field that by sharing who was in the doctor's office that day she committed a HIPAA privacy violation. She and the doctor could be sued. Privacy policies are very strict and they extend to everyone whether or not that person is making a fool of himself.

ImUrPO sounds like just another tax-sucking leach (typical a**sucker government union employee) but we need mccsports to say how he really feels!

Actually PA born, she did not violate HIPPA laws by just stating he was at the office. As long as no medical information was given out, there was no violation by stating he was at the office.

You must realize that when you are lacking brain power, you have to rant and rave, shout and yell.......... because you don't know how to carry on a rational conversation. Let's face it folks....Dave Betras' elevator does't go to the top floor. He is a born loser !!

AtownParent: Please see the second bullet point below. This is taken directly from the Health & Human Services website.

“Individually identifiable health information” is information, including demographic data, that relates to:
• the individual’s past, present or future physical or mental health or
• the provision of health care to the individual, or
• the past, present, or future payment for the provision of health care to the
and that identifies the individual or for which there is a reasonable basis to believe can be used to identify the individual. Individually identifiable health information includes many common identifiers (e.g., name, address, birth date, Social Security Number).

As a medical office employee, we are told - without question - we are not permitted to disclose who presents in the office for treatment because that violates their right to privacy of seeking services by a medical practitioner. If you present at a psychiatrist's office for treatment and your next door neighbor's best friend works there, recognizes you and tells your neighbor, does that violate your privacy? You bet.

No one suggested that Betras is suing - only that by violating a person's medical privacy the people in the doctor's office COULD be sued.

A little work on your reading comprehension would help stop the spread of misinformation.

Mr. Betras is all about publicity and ego and he will eventually destroy the economic climate for the Valley so that no business person in their right mind would want to locate here. And those that are here will look for a way out. It's that bad.
