391 vehicles checked for suspended licenses

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Police Department conducted its first driving-under-suspension checkpoint for this year March 18 on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Superior Street on the city’s North Side. During the checkpoint, 391 vehicles were processed.

There were 39 vehicles redirected to a diversion zone for additional processing. Two people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

There were 13 drivers cited for driving under suspension (driving without a license). Four drivers were cited for other traffic offenses. Two people were charged with wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle.

Are you serious? Once again, less than 1% of the drivers (and this one WAS NOT announced). Obviously the police chief was stretching the truth when he said over 50% of Youngstown drivers aren't licensed. These checkpoints are bothering the innocent 99% to gather up less than 1% for Misdemeanors. Not to mention the 99% are the ones paying for it. I am just as appalled by this now as I was when they started...
