WARREN — Local autoworkers, state Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Canfield, D-33rd, and Jim Graham, president UAW Local 1112, and a Warren mayoral candidate, had a press conference today to mark the recovery of General Motors and the American auto industry and what it has meant for Ohio’s workers and families.
This week as many as 45,000 U.S. hourly workers will receive profit-sharing checks less than two years after the company emerged from structured bankruptcy proceedings. The checks are expected to be distributed Friday.

Why do I detect a note of sarcasym in this headline? The use of the word "doled" makes it sound like the auto workers don't deserve a bonus. After all, who do you think brought GM out of bankrupcty? It was the teamwork of everybody at GM from the top to the "guy or gal on the line" working together. Kudos to everybody invovled. From a proud GM salaried retiree.
Funny thing, I never heard any of the autoworkers complaining about their situation during everything that's happened to them like our public union employees. They did what it takes, they "goter' done".
The taxpayers gave them the handout to stay in business. Where's my "profit" sharing check?
After loosing money on GM stock, this announcement makes me feel like maybe I should get a refund !

At the present value of the GM stock the sale price will have to DOUBLE for the Government to just BREAK EVEN.
What in Gods name is GM going to produce that will make it's stock price DOUBLE, that overpriced golf cart (Volt) that the average Man will never be able to afford?. Ya sure there will be a lot of tree hugging Hollywood types that will be pictured driving one, but the average Joe will never pony up to that damn thing. In short the taxpayers will never recoup what it put into GM but still they hand out money like it isn't theirs (oh ya thats right it's not thier money).
