U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, will attend a groundbreaking at 11 a.m. today for a project that will bring water and sanitary sewers to the Ravenna Training and Logistic Site.
The ground-breaking ceremony will take place at the Windham Gate off of Main Street.
The Ohio Army National Guard uses the 21,418-acre Ravenna Training and Logistic Site, formerly known as the Ravenna Arsenal, for training.
Construction at the site will provide sewage service for the facility and water service to The Ohio National Guard Tactical Training Base.
The base includes 17 buildings that are being renovated into housing quarters and three restroom facilities, according to a press release.
There is no information on the number of jobs the project will bring to the area, and calls to Ryan’s office were not immediately returned.
The water and sewer project is expected to cost about $3 million.
The Ohio Army National Guard will provide $1.6 million in funding for the sewer project, and Portage County is contributing $568,511, according to a press release.
