YOUNGSTOWN

Federal authorities have given new meaning to the acronym of the South Side gang they believe they have dismantled.

“To the LSP members, the ride is over. LSP no longer stands for LaClede, Sherwood and Parkview, it now stands for Last Stop Prison,” said Robert Browning, special agent for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

At a press conference Friday in Youngstown City Council’s chambers in city hall, Browning said the list of individuals facing charges in connection with the investigation of the gang is getting longer.

Officials say that number will continue to grow as investigators continue to look into activities of alleged LSP members.

LSP stands for the streets from which the gang ran its suspected criminal enterprise. Browning said the gang has been dismantled.

A 42-count federal indictment released Thursday detailed 23 men facing charges as alleged gang members. Another man — 34-year-old Rashan Bell — has been added to the list of men facing federal charges. Several additional men are facing state charges for their suspected roles as gang members.

Special Agent Kim Riddell, the ATF public information officer, said these people have been apprehended and are facing state charges: Paul Henderson, 27; Davon Johnson, 25; Jawuan Moore, 25; Dante Bebbs, 26; Jeremiah McClarin, 25; Jeremy Tomlin, 24; and Kenneth Whatley, 24.

Those charged federally under the RICO act are Youngstown residents DaQuann Hackett, Derrick Johnson Jr., Aldric Jones, Dominique Callier, Richard Ivy, Andre Ballinger II, Van Lightning, Terrance Machen Jr., Tyrell Oliver, Nalemn Hasley, James Neail, Marques Duvall, Melvin Johnson III, Corey Council, Carlton Council Jr., Braylyn Williams, Michael Jones, Wayne Kerns, Maurise Kerns, Edward Campbell III, Ryan Davis, Shawn Jones and Tre’von Mason.

Browning said the LSP gang has operated on the South Side for nearly a decade selling drugs and guns and even plotting murder. He said the ATF has been investigating the gang for about two years.

Browning said federal agents stationed in several states along with Youngstown police and members of the adult parole authority rounded up 13 alleged gang members Thursday but did not find any guns or drugs during that sweep.

There are several alleged members whose names have not yet been released and six members — Ballinger II, Carlton Council, Aldric Jones, Michael Jones, Machen Jr. and Rashan Bell — are still at large.

Mayor Jay Williams said the arrest of the more than two dozen men associated with the gang will prevent additional crimes from being committed. He said the fact that most of the men are facing federal charges shows how seriously law enforcement and government officials are taking the crimes.

“By taking LSP off of the streets, we are going to give the streets back to the law-abiding citizens,” the mayor said.

U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach said the arrest of the gang members under the RICO act is a continuing effort by federal agents and local law enforcement to go after the “worst of the worst” criminals operating in neighborhoods throughout the area.

Dettelbach detailed instances where LSP gang members committed serious crimes in the area including a drive-by shooting on East Judson in 2009, the beating and pistol whipping of a man last year, and the shooting of another man in 2008.

“This is a group of people who shot indiscriminately, sold drugs and wore bulletproof vests,” Dettelbach said. “We are working together. We are working hard, and we are not going to give an inch in this fight.”

Police Chief Jimmy Hughes said officers still see a lot of gang activity such as “tagging” neighborhoods with graffiti and retaliation, but the gangs have changed in some respects.

The chief made mention of the LSP members’ using MySpace and other Internet venues as a means of bragging about their criminal exploits.

The name LSP started as a club not a gang, its a shame that good kids can't have a club that bad ones take over. The ones who started the club, majority of them are not on the list because they are not criminals, they are graduates of high schools in the surrounding area, they go to college and are trying to make a better name for themselves. Some of the ones who were arrested are good kids, its just bad that their friends are not and by them knowing them and growing up with them, they are labeled something they are not. I feel sorry for them to have to go through this because of the others.

Their always good kids huh? They are OLD enough to know right from wrong, who to hang out with, etc. Just another excuse.
Really wish people would be sick and tired of these kind of animals instead of saying how good they are. There NOT. They could care less who they hurt, what they do to get whatever they want! Instead of good ones that work, go to college, make there parents proud, try to make something of there lives, they are the good ones not these animals.

The difference between good kids and bad kids in the hood is upbringing . The kids learn a lot from their parents be it good or be it bad .

They are not animals, they are human beings like the rest of us, most are missed lead by others and instead of labeling like Life2short you should be out there trying to help them. I have helped alot of these animals as you see them and they have became great kids. Not all kids that grow up in the hood are bad, and the parents are not to blame. When the chiladren service stopped people from whopping their kids it took away the right from parents. The kids started running the households because they knew all they had to do is hollar child abuse and parents went to jail for doing what was right. So not all parents are the blame just some of them, my goal is to help these parents and children to find jobs, graduate from school, or get their GED to become better people. So instead of labeling everyone, do something to change things. I live in that area and I know some of them young men and I know that they all are not bad. I have helped them get their GED's and go to college. Like I said it started out as a club and others started the gang BS so not all of them are criminals, they are good young men. They can't help who they know and who their family and neighbors are. That don't make them bad, or animals! They are HUMAN BEINGS just like you all. I can bet that most of you are not perfect and have done something wrong in your lifetime, WE ALL HAVE and there was someone who whooped your behind, talked to you, or was there for you. So remember what it was like. So get your behinds out there and help someone instead of criticizing them.

"They are not animals, they are human beings like the rest of us, most are missed lead by others and instead of labeling like Life2short you should be out there trying to help them."

It's not labeling, when someone treats another human being with malice, evil intents, carrying weapons, bullet proof vests, selling guns, murder, threatening INNOCENT people, that is a animal, pure and simple. Help them? Why should society help them when there Fathers and Mothers should be doing that job. Maybe the Father and Mother should be held accountable instead of everyone else. Why not bring the handle down on their parents? It's always the same old excuse, when is it going to stop? You would think when there friends are buried that would change there perspectives but it don't. They keep on doing it over and over. There in there 20's, they should know right from wrong by now. How come the majority of young people in there 20's are doing something with their lives? A lot come from broken homes and such but they are doing alright from themselves. Why is that?

"So get your behinds out there and help someone instead of criticizing them."

And I do help, I was in prison (CRC, North Coast Correctional) for DUI's. I have a felon, but I'm making something of my life. I use to work for the Government sector and made big money and now I'm doing what I have to do. I lost everything. Why? Because I quit making excuses for my actions. I looked in the mirror.
And I do help, I go to local schools and the county jail and talk to the kids about drinking and driving and drugging. So you see, I try to make a difference but it boils down to them looking in the mirror and wanting to change.

Part ONE.

@ loveblueunicorn and,
@ babygirl612:

@ loveblueunicorn:

" Some of the ones who were arrested are good kids, its just bad that their friends are not and by them knowing them and growing up with them, they are labeled something they are not. "

What? Good kids gone bad? Where are you from? How did you get to this planet?

What has happened to personal responsibility? You state, " So get your behinds out there and help someone instead of criticizing them. "

You tell us to take personal responsibility (of what? To become responsible for these loser thug animals stealing and robbing and killing our neighbors and family and friends?), yet you ALLOW these loser thugs in our community to continue with their issues and act out VIOLENTLY in our community, AND you state that YOU are trying to help them??

ARE YOU KIDDING?? What kind of advice are you able to logically and intelligently give them, let alone anyone?

They are not good kids (GOOD KIDS COMMITTING ADULT VIOLENT CRIMES), they are animals behaving like animals behaving like criminals in a civilized society. All of them were arrested for a reason.

Hopefully the ones you don't want labeled as something they are not will be labeled inmate number 987654321 with a lifetime sentence in a federal prison. My God, the innocent people they made feel desperate in their own home.

Life has been tough on ALL OF US after all, we live in Youngstown Ohio, but you don't see all of us acting like animals and criminals.

" They are not animals, they are human beings like the rest of us,... "

WRONG. TRY AGAIN LOVEBLUEUNICORN. They are animals destroying our neighborhoods and community which are made up of black, white, red, yellow, brown, and more, skin colors.

In the circle of life their actions have made a very very negative difference for very very many people.

" When the chiladren service stopped people from whopping their kids it took away the right from parents. "

And what have YOU done about that?

Part TWO.

@ loveblueunicorn and,
@ babygirl612:

@ loveblueunicorn:
How many letters have YOU written to your legislators? How many homes have YOU gone to and talked with the crime victims? How many civilian investigative ride alongs with the police have you gone on in an attempt to solve local and centralized crime issues? Who at children services have you spoken with to get educated about new discipline methods for children?

I have your answer and I'm not even close to being psychic - ZERO.

Oh yes, I could go on and on, but you have absolutely no idea of what these animal criminal thugs have been doing to the very fabric of our community and I for one am enjoying every bit of punishment they receive.

It is too bad that vigilante justice isn't around the corner from their prison cell.

@ babygirl612:

" And This Is Just What White Folks Want,... " ; " But Isnt America The Land Of Freedom & Equality BS!
Once Again Black People!, GET EDUCATED! "

You need to speak with Michelle Obama because she PUBLICALLY stated your very sentiments and people, WHITE PEOPLE, voted for her husband.

You babygirl612 and your racist rants and tirades sicken the very intelligent nature of our community and threaten everyone’s way of life.

I only wish you find your racist cause in a nemesis in which you may always have your sickened peace, but do so out of our community comprised of peaceful black, white, red, yellow, brown, and more, skin colors.

Before you issue your " Once Again Black People!, GET EDUCATED! " battle cry, I suggest you do it after accomplishing for yourself a GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT degree.

Perhaps that way you won't come across as stupid and your friend, loveblueunicorn, won't look or be assumed stupid simply for associating with you.

A ANIMAL is white, black, yellow, purple, pink, orange, green, brown, indigo, blue and on and on and on.
Your the one that starts with the RACIST sh@#4. Someone who has no RESPECT for the law, for their parents, for others, for LIFE, then they are nothing but a ANIMAL pure and simple. So you can take your racist hate and make all the EXCUSES you want but in the end, ONCE AGAIN, it's the INDIVIDUAL WHO NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HIS/HER ACTIONS! Is that so hard to comprehend without bringing in RACE?
Your are nothing but a RACIST and until you look in the mirror and quit blaming everyone and everything else, your words have no meaning.

"Its Hard Enough Being An African-American..."

Try being a White American with all the racist hate from the black community. It's not easy. See it goes BOTH ways! Comprehend?

LSP...Should stand for LOOK STUPID POLICE... and to everyone else, do you actually think that this one bust, will dismember, and destroy this gang? Are people seriously this stupid?? For every Corner Hustler that gets popped, there are 3 more waiting to take his place! Thats just the way the game goes... Just like Rico said in Paid in Full..Half of these kids wanna be the man, just cause...One day Youngstown will realize how to slow down the drugs, cuz the war on drugs will never be won..that's just a fact...I am surprised though, most busts in the area as of late, have been of low level users, and small time street hustlers. The big cats, as in any city, are too connected to local LEO to ever get popped...

I'm going to argee with you! My friend is related to one of the LSP gang memebers and he is not even CLOSE to an animal or a killer. He is the sweetest person. He has a beautiful son, he goes to school everyday, he plays on the basketball team and he wants a better life for himself and his son. I have never heard so many bad comments about people that your judging before you even know them. Life out here in Youngstown,Ohio is hard, harder than you can imagine! Kids grow up with a father or family and join a gang because they show you more love then your family does. I didn't grow up with a father like some of you and its hard out here. You have to worry about things that you can't even deal with. So to the people that are judging these boys you are the most rudist, ignorant people I ever seen. These boys need a future. Not a felony! Give them a chance at life something that some of you never got.

"I have never heard so many bad comments about people that your judging before you even know them." "So to the people that are judging these boys you are the most rudist, ignorant people I ever seen."

It gets pretty serious when the Feds, ATF, APA, YPD get involved so who is judging who? A 2 year investigation by the Feds is pretty serious, don't you agree? So what your saying is everyone associated with the investigation and the law are rude and ignorant because there getting these animals off the streets and letting normal law abiding citizens not live in fear for there life?

freehimplease says:
"Life out here in Youngstown,Ohio is hard, harder than you can imagine! "

Life everywhere is hard not just Youngstown. But why are the majority of broken home kids doing okay and not breaking the law. It's the ones that use the excuse how tough it is that have no morals.

freehimplease says:
"These boys need a future. Not a felony! Give them a chance at life something that some of you never got."

Ever hear of being "responsible for your own actions?" They are old enough to know right from wrong wouldn't you agree? For them to have a future they have to change there ways and be responsible adults not wanna be gangstas. Join the military, be productive in society not a statistic. Comprehend?

"have you ever been to youngstown?"

Like, uh, excuse me? Youngstown is right across the street from me. Gun shots? Try hearing them every weekend and occasionally during the week.

"and where is the police? Nowhere to be found!"

Why should the police even bother when no one wants to snitch. It's kind of hard for the police to do their job when they don't have "cooperation" from the public. Isn't the saying in the 'hood, "No One Likes A Snitch"?

If you think Youngstown is bad I hope you never venture to the really tough cities you wouldn't last a day. Youngstown is lame to some of the cities I've been to.

"So mind your own business!"

You never answered my questions.

When your kid is hanging around the wrong people its not the communities fault, its not police's fault...Its the dam parents who don't give a dam where there kids are, who they are hanging with, if they are in school or not. The one guy is in school and has a baby already? Why? My daughter graduated from Chaney 2 years ago and no pregnancy and why? because as a parent I made sure she was doing what she should be doing and hanging with the right people. When I started having kids my ex and I decided to only have 1 because thats all we could really afford at the time. You dont have kids that you cant take care of and provide a decent home to. Children are gifts not something you disregard and expect everyone else to take care of.

The way I see it stop complaining about people being racist because youngstown is very diverse with race. Black, white, hispanic, or whatever race it is CRIME needs to stop. I am mixed with all 3 races & I dont see color I see people in general. You do the crime You do the time, thats it. If anyone choses to hang out with the wrong people they know the risk that comes with it. People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions & stop making excuses for anyone associated with the bad people in this world of ALL races. I cannot persuade everyone to do the right thing or help everyone who commits crime but I will teach my son the right way to live & teach him the consequences of doing wrong. Once he is on his own I can just hope everything I teach pays off. We need all parents to do the same because pretty soon Youngstown is gonna be nothing but memories & thats sad.
