WAYNESBORO, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a man fleeing police at speeds up to 120 mph caused a crash that killed a mother of nine.
Washington Township police say the pursuit began after they received a complaint of someone driving recklessly Wednesday night. An officer attempted to stop the car but the driver fled.
Police say the pursuit accelerated to 120 mph before the officer crashed. Police say the driver continued into Waynesboro, where he ran a red light and caused a three-car accident.
The Franklin County coroner says 45-year-old Judithann Clement of Waynesboro died Thursday morning. Friends say her nine children range from toddlers to young adults.
Twenty-year-old David Szumigala, of Ocean Springs, Miss., has been charged with vehicular homicide and other offenses. Court records did not list an attorney.

Such a tragic story. I am so tired of hearing about senseless deaths. Why do the police do high speed chases like that. bout 15 or so years back an innocent man was killed at the intersection of Midlothian Blvd. and Yo-Poland rd. These kinds of chases must stop. Dont they have a license plate to fall back on. have the cops waitibg nearby his house. Arrest him then.
I agree. Why put innocent lives in jeporady simply for the "thrill of the chase". There is enough technology in place that can limit these chase scenarios.
