Crash in Vienna

Two people were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after a crash at the intersection of state Route 82 and Sodom Hutchings Road.

Troopers from the Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 5:17 p.m. Wednesday.

Andrew Cassidy, 25, of Hubbard was cited for failure to yield after driving his Ford pick-up truck through a flashing red light heading north on Sodom-Hutchings Road. He struck a Dodge Caliber heading west on state Route 82, driven by Rosemarie Ruheim, 55, of Masury.

Man attacked by dogs

A Youngstown man was attacked by dogs on the city’s West Side.

Brian Geiger, 19, was getting the mail at his Portland Avenue home Wednesday when he was attacked by two pit bull terriers that escaped their fenced-in yard.

Geiger and neighbors stayed in their homes to avoid another attack.

The dogs’ owner, 49-year-old Rose Helmick, arrived home and was able to corral her dogs. She faces fourth-degree felony charges for attacks by each dog.

Dog Warden Dave Nelson said dog calls increase at this time of year, noting this one was of 16 calls about vicious dogs Wednesday.

Youngstown police arrested two of three suspects after a break-in on South Hazelwood on the city’s West Side.

One of the suspects who was arrested led police on a chase Wednesday down Interstate 680 before abandoning his car.
