Columbiana Council has second reading on annexation of property

Staff report

City council has approved the second of two readings of an ordinance to annex about 56 acres in Beaver Township in Mahoning County.

Two readings are needed for a measure to become law.

Daniel Leverknight is leasing the property for Lake Front Golf Course, 14550 South Ave., along with its restaurant, and has said he plans to buy property. He wants city utility service.

Council also gave a second reading Tuesday to an ordinance listing the services it will provide if 17 acres in Fairfield Township are annexed into the city. Earl Corey and C. Tucker Cope are considering buying land on state Route 14 but have not indicated what they plan to do with it. Cope said there are some buildings on the property. They have to be annexed into the city in order get the utilities. Cope & Associates, 170 Duquesne St., is involved in the construction business.

Council gave second reading to an ordinance to sell unused city items. City Manager Keith Chamberlin said city workers have been looking for unused items but have found little to sell.
