Wine and pepper taste will benefit baseball


Struthers Baseball League will sponsor a wine and pepper tasting event from 7 to 10:30 p.m. today at St. Nicholas Church hall, 764 5th St.

Awards will be given for the best red, white, fruit and overall wine.

Also, awards for the best hot peppers and sweet peppers will be handed out.

The event will also feature a large basket auction.

Tickets cost $15 per person and $25 per couple at the door. For more information call Armand Pape at 330-565-0050.

711 Challenge will be for charity

Which side of the 711 connector eats more corned beef — the North (Liberty) or the south (Poland)?

The deli that sells the most corned beef on Wednesday and Thursday will present a $250 Pot O’Gold donation to its favorite charity.

Kravitz Deli in the Poland Library will donate $250 to Hospice of the Valley if it wins, and Kravits Deli in Liberty will donate to the Stambaugh Auditorium Renovation Fund if it wins.

If more than 7,000 pounds of corned beef are sold, the Pot O’Gold doubles to $500 for the charity.

Museum Friends will meet Monday


The next meeting of the Friends of the Museum of Industry & Labor will take place at 5 p.m. Monday at the museum, 151 W. Wood St.

Valley pizza contest to feature food, fun


The Mahoning Valley Pizza Cook-off, from 4 to 7 p.m. March 27 at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave., will be a fundraiser to benefit the Potential Development Program.

Organizers are uniting Valley pizza establishments to present patrons with the tastiest pizzas and compete in a contest for the title of “Maestro Di Cucina.”

Tickets cost $10 per person, which includes two pizza slices and salad.Additional pizza slices will be $1.

Reserved tables are $125 per table, which includes 10 tickets to the event.

Also featured will be a cash bar, silent auction, basket auction and a 50-50 raffle.

Quilt show coming up


A quilt show will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 19 at Wilmington Township Mercer County Building, 35 Auction Road.

Admission is $2, and refreshments will be available.

Wilmington Township Mercer County Civic League Quilters are sponsoring the show, which will feature a wide variety of locally crafted quilts on display and some for sale.

Delphine Lord quilts will be featured this year.

Library Friends to meet in Boardman


Friends of the Boardman Library will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the community room. Atty. Timothy Brookes will give a presentation on “Pretty Boy Floyd.”

Reservations are not necessary, and guests are welcome.

Hostesses will be Deanna Lambert, Barbara Huberty, Romaine Moore and Angie Guerrieri.
