Boardman police seek help in theft of purse at Aldi

Staff report

Police are asking for the public’s help to solve a January theft.

A 42-year-old Youngstown woman told police another woman stole her purse at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 16 at Aldi, 6131 South Ave., according to reports.

The purse contained the woman’s credit cards, her $700 paycheck and $110 in cash, police said.

The woman who stole the purse approached the Youngstown woman, who was shopping with her 6-year-old daughter and asked her questions about products on the shelves, said Detective Glenn Patton of Boardman police.

“She made her feel comfortable,” he said.

After asking the questions, the woman went down another aisle, leaving the Youngstown woman and her daughter, but returned a few minutes later, Patton said.

The woman heard her daughter scream and looked up to see the woman who asked her questions running out of the store with her purse, knocking over several display items on her way, reports state.

She entered a white Ford Ranger with an extended cab driven by a male who appeared to be about 55 years old, according to reports.

Anyone with information is asked to call Boardman police and ask for Detective Patton.
