Ballet, Oakland team up for event

Building Art 2, the second annual celebration of the Morley Arts Building, will be March 26 at 7 p.m. The building at 218 W. Boardman St. is home to Ballet Western Reserve and the Oakland Center for the Arts.

“The Arts community of the Morley Arts Building will once again put the fun in fundraising with this celebration of the Mahoning Valley’s most nurturing and productive creative location,” said Stas Kmiec, Ballet Western Reserve’s artistic director. “Repairs, renovations and updates at our facility are necessary, and this event will allow the great work that is developed in this historic building to continue.”

Tickets are $25 ($15 for seniors and students). Call 330-744-1934. Building Art 2 will include participatory and lecture-style workshops, including:

A performance by the Ballet Western Reserve Dance Company.

A sneak preview of the Oakland’s upcoming production “Fat Pig.”

A lecture by Oakland Center for the Arts founder Alexandra Vansuch.

Vocalists Janeen and James McClellan, accompanied by Anthony Ruggiero.

A dance class led by Kmiec.

The event will include live jazz, hors d’oeuvres and beverages. A Dinner for a Year basket, with gift certificates from area eateries, will be raffled.
