Pa, man charged with dragging police officer with car

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania man is in custody after he reportedly dragged a police officer about 150 feet with his car and was shot by the officer.

York police say 21-year-old Ernest Bryant Matthews was arrested after he arrived at York Hospital with a gunshot wound late Friday night, hours after being shot when officers tried to break up a drug deal.

Investigators say Officer Michael Fissel was partially inside Matthews’ vehicle and struggling with the suspect when Matthews hit the gas, dragging the officer. Authorities say Fissel shot Matthews once in the leg before he escaped.

Matthews was sent to York County Prison on $250,000 bail after being treated for his gunshot wound. Fissel was treated for his injuries.
