Staff report

A 38-year-old man suffered serious injuries in an accident at a Niles manufacturing plant.

Niles Police Detective Dan Adkins said the man was attempting to clear debris from a piece of machinery when his leg got caught in the equipment.

Adkins said the accident occurred about 11 a.m. Thursday at Ironics Inc., 750 S. Main St.

The company specializes in metallurgical and amber glass applications, according to its website.

Capt. John Cicero of the city fire department said firefighters and paramedics manipulated the machinery by hand to free the man, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
