Two arsons probed at Rumors Lounge

Published: Fri, March 4, 2011 @ 12:27 p.m.

Austintown

Township officials are investigating what they believe is the second intentionally set fire at Rumors Lounge this week.

Austintown Fire Chief Andy Frost Jr. said fire crews were called at about 4:15 a.m. to the bar at 104 N. Meridian Road, where it was engulfed in flames.

Rumors caught fire for the first time this week early Wednesday morning, and fire personnel estimated about $45,000 in damages. Friday’s fire was a total loss.

Frost said both episodes are being investigated as arson.

“It’s apparent that someone broke in, threw flammable liquid inside and started the fire,” he said.

Austintown police, the state fire marshal’s office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification are assisting with the investigation.

Arson?

Come on - Have you seen the low life, dead beat, gutter breath, human trash, floozey and boozey, walking the dog, no home, paperless toilet, minimum I.Q., would call them a pig but wouldn't want to insult the pig, shoeless and pregnant, DNA pond scum, clientele that hung out there?

Arson?

Nah!

I'm betting it was a homeless shelter that had a fart and a lighter party and it all got wayyyyyy outta hand.

By the way- Thank you Canfield Fire Department for coming over and helping Austintown Fire Department out.

Brent was wanting to relocate and make it bigger someplace else. He didn't have the funds to do it. How Ironic...

most likely an insurance scam...tough part will be proving it....18 year old underage market is a tough profit venture, considering 18 year olds shouldnt even be drinking there in the first place..Whether they burn down or get shut down they eventually all fall

All signs lead to an insurance scam definitely, at least that's my opinion. They probably thought the first fire would have taken care of the job and to their surprise, it didn't. This second fire seemed more aggressive as they apparently broke in and made sure it would be engulfed and a total loss.

I would check to see if they were financially hurting, I am sure there are ways to check into things. Aren't the owners also owners of Gossip, that large nightclub that has had really poor business the past several months? I know Rumors business has been hurting on account of all of the bars getting cracked down on underage serving since that shooting near YSU (I know this because a bartender at another bar told me about how it's hurting bars that serve the underage).

Its simply amazing the holier than thou attitude you people display and the rumor mills you can generate. Back the bus up and give Brent some credit he did not hide behind his computer and bash people he got his ass up and made a move and got in the bar business. which we all know is by no means easy and yes it has its bad side fighting underage drinking. i know Brent and i have never heard him have a bad word to say about anyone or thing. Before you get to making accusations get the facts and get to know the person you attack. Afterall there is no such things as random acts of crime so it has to be the bar owner. its a shame that when some one has a lil success it generates so many haters instead of congragulaters and yes i have drank in both bars and you know what its a bar like any other you cant dictate your cliental you treat them all with respect as he did. I had a good time both at Rumors and Gossip. Its not what you know it what you can prove!

sure there were "questionable customers" that hung at are Rumors but come on its a bar. Could the owners have done it? It's possible but highly unlikely! We are coming up on St. Patties day, the biggest drinking holiday of the year. Do you have any idea the revenue they were in store for? With the owners of the bars running a shuttle between Rumors and Gossip? Very Very Highly unlikely. I've been to Rumors and Gossip multiple times for Concerts and just to plan out have a good time and trust me, they may have been hurting with the way our economy is but they weren't hurting that bad. Cut the guy some slack.

Please, Brent is racist punk, he's always been in special ed classes! Can't you all tell? He goes back and sets his place on fire again. Brent do you really think that the Austintown police are that stupid? Just like Brent buying all the stolen booze and re-selling it! Brent, your previous felony will sink you boy! A lie detector test will prove that your the arsonist! Good luck fool! You set the fire!

Yeah St. Patty's Day festivities do draw money for local bars, BUT Between O'Donalds, and Gossip. Rumors has no chance to break even. He's been hurtin' financially for awhile, and there's no way he would've survived St. Patrick's Day week. APD is far from stupid..

@Mopar10. Well you must be the idiot because Austintown Police won't be handling the investigation. The fire department is in charge of all arson related cases and investigations. What, did you sit next to brent in those classes? Jealous he got higher grades than you apparently.

Ok, I don't even know Brent, but how can any of you sit behind ur screen and say "you know its fraud" are u a professional in these investigations? Have u already conducted ur investigation at the scene? People hate to see someone doing good for.themselves, especially in this area. Oh!!! And how in the he'll do u know he's doing good or bad? You must do his books, forgive me.

mopar you really are dumb. The fire dept investigates arson and the police dept will make an arrest if the fire dept signs charges on someone through the prosecutors office. Read law 101. Oh, sorry, I realize thats above your 3rd grade reading level.

type in brent furrie. such a wonderful record of felonies, stalking, assault, breaking and entering.

It couldnt be an insurance scam, because brent is such a nice guy...It's only been 3 weeks since hes been charged with assault and will probably have to pay a settlement, thus come the insurance funds...

You type of people make me sick... Do any of you truelly know Brent Furrie? Well just incase you don't let me tell you something about the guy I know. He's a very loving and caring person who has done great things for our community!!! Yes he's done things but he has paid his debt to society, and continues to pay back to the community he believes in. He's a great person, friend, and family member. I don't understand when someone makes something of theirselves people like you tear them down because of their past. We all have past and have made mistakes it's learning from them that matters. Lets face it is Youngstown I know there are many people with past worst then most that has become something. So take your thoughts and worry about what your doing. Untill you can look at yourselves and say you have never made a bad choice then maybe you shouldn't talk about people you don't even know!!! Loving Rumors and Gossip!!!

I never even MET Brent! So he does have a record. Maybe he did burn it down, maybe he did not! None of you have any right to assume he did anything, ESPECIALLY without evidence and just because of his past.

To all you know it alls Brent had nothing to gain by setting the fire, he doesnt even own the property, so before all you a-holes start running your mouths you should probably know what the hell you are taikng about & maybe try getting a life!!!!!
