Event to focus on ice-age mammals

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Bob Glotzhober, senior curator of natural history at the Ohio Historical Society, will discuss at 1 p.m. Saturday at the D. D. and Velma Davis Visitors’ Center at Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens the many large ice-age mammals that once roamed Ohio.

Through a PowerPoint presentation, Glotzhober will highlight images of some of the rarest Ohio ice- age fossils in the historical society’s collections and other fossils from around the state.

Glotzhober recently finished moving the “Conway Mastodon” for better viewing at the Ohio History Center in Columbus.

The park will attempt to move a mastodon skull, unearthed in Canfield in the 1930s, from the Ford Nature Center to the gardens for audience viewing during the presentation.
