The Alliance Community Hospital’s “Read to Rover and a Resident” program begins Saturday at the hospital, and will meet the first Saturday of each month thereafter from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. It is conducted by Paws and Reflect, the hospital’s pet- therapy program. The program enables students, grades one through six, to read books to residents and the pet-therapy dogs. The students must enjoy dogs and have no allergies to them; and be comfortable with elderly people. Red Cross classes
The dates and times of classes offered by the Mercer County Red Cross in March at its office at 517 W. Main St. are: Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to noon, “First Aid,” $45; Wednesday, 6 to 9:30 p.m., “Adult CPR/AED,” $50; March 11, 6 to 9:30 p.m., “Pet First Aid,” $45. Trumbull County Health Department community childhood immunization clinics are at the following times and places: Trumbull County Health Department, Monday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., and March 16, 1 to 4 p.m.; St Joe’s At The Mall, Thursday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.; and Mesopotamia Fire Station: Tuesday, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. All clinics are walk-in. There is a $10 fee per visit, but no one will be denied because of inability to pay. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, who should bring their child’s vaccination records.
The Youngstown YMCA is offering lifeguard training for teens Monday through April 13. The classes meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Davis YMCA Branch in Boardman and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Central Branch in downtown Youngstown. The cost is $200. Participants must be at least 16 years old by April 13 and must be able to swim 500 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes without using hands and swim underwater 15 feet. American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley, using Trumbull County Senior Levy funds, is offering Trumbull County residents age 60 and over free classes on “CPR,” “1st Aid,” “Infant/Child CPR,” “Your Heart Matters” and other topics throughout March.
