Maurice Clarett's brother charged with drug felony

Published: Tue, March 1, 2011 @ 11:08 p.m.

Staff report

Michael Clarett Jr., brother of Youngstown native and former Ohio State football standout Maurice Clarett, is facing felony drug charges after his arrest in Alliance.

Lt. John Jenkins of the Alliance Police Department said officers from two law-enforcement agencies were conducting an investigation and witnessed a package delivered by U.S. mail to an Alliance address, then watched Clarett pick up the package.

Clarett, 30, of Ravenwood Avenue, was pulled over about 1 p.m. Monday after picking up the package.

Jenkins said officers found 13 pounds of suspected marijuana inside the car wrapped in 1-pound bundles. He said police also found $3,200 in cash inside the car.

Clarett and a female inside the car, Koneca Gilmore, 22, of Dean Street, were charged with felony trafficking in marijuana. Police also arrested the man living in the house where the package was delivered, Michael Serafin, 22, of Alliance, and charged him with felony trafficking in marijuana.

Clarett is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. today in Alliance Municipal Court. He is free on a $200,000 bond.

Alliance may not be as easy going as Youngstown would have been on Michael Clarett Jr. Slammer time would keep him from selling drugs for a while .
