Deputies investigate tip of bodies buried in Texas

Published: Tue, June 7, 2011 @ 7:51 p.m.

LIBERTY, Texas (AP) — A sheriff’s spokesman says authorities have asked for a search warrant after receiving an anonymous tip that multiple dismembered bodies are buried at a rural southeast Texas home.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Rex Evans told The Associated Press his office received a report today that there were bodies in the home about 70 miles northeast of Houston. Evans told the Houston Chronicle that no bodies had been recovered shortly before 6 p.m.

Footage shot from a helicopter showed 15 vehicles parked along a rural road intersection near a farmhouse. The area around the home was heavily wooded.

FBI spokeswoman Kim Barkhausen in Houston tells AP that the agency has been asked to assist in an investigation. She declined to discuss details of the anonymous tip or the search.
