Yemma gets nod for Mahoning treasurer’s post

Published: Mon, June 6, 2011 @ 9:03 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Dan Yemma can remove interim from his title of Mahoning County interim treasurer.

County Democratic precinct committee members voted overwhelmingly in favor today of having Yemma fill the unexpired term.

Yemma received 142 votes to 70 for Kenneth A. Carano, a former state legislator and former Gov. Ted Strickland’s Mahoning Valley regional director.

Paul J. Canter, a certified public accountant, who repeatedly called himself a “political novice” in his speech to the committee members received 5 votes.

After the vote, Yemma said he was “surprised at the margin” of victory, “but I worked very hard” for the votes.

Yemma will fill the remainder of ex-Treasurer Lisa Antonini’s term, which expires in September 2013.

Also today, Struthers precinct committee members voted 13-1 to appoint Carol Crytzer, a Democratic precinct committee member, over William J. Basista to Yemma’s unexpired term as Struthers council-at-large.

For Yemma to serve as interim treasurer, a position county commissioners appointed him to on May 23, he had to resign his Struthers council seat.

Hope he has learned from his predecessor both what to do and what not to do while serving the public. Also sugggest that he take the words "zero tolerance" to heart.

Precinct Committee members are not allowed to think. They vote for the candidate they are told to vote for or they are no longer members of the committee. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. Our only recourse in this area is to be diligent and to vote out those who have violated our trust and in whom we have no confidence. As I said, from this point forward, zero tolerance.

Wonder where all of that Betras Power went?

Did he not tell Yemma he was going to show him how much power he had and he would wish he never went there? (Questioning the knowledge and power of the County Democrat Chairman's decision to use electronic voting)

Wasn't that Betras display the other night on the news a real embarrassment for the Dems.

Do you think that the delegates did not get the Cafaro envelopes in time? I thought Carano was a shoe in?

WoW the ambulance chaser chairman took one to the chin here. His man lost BIG....Now we need to get rid of HIM and elect someone to lead the party who is respected and held in a much better place than the ambulance chaser and " big insurance " let me sue you lawyer. Almost forgot, if your neighbors dog bites you, Betras says on his commercial to call him..those are his words not mine.

Betras called Yemma "the worse public offical in the county" and turns around and "praises" him for doing good work.
Does Betras talk out of "both ends" and I don't mean out of his mouth.
Betras has the TV ads blasting "big insurance" and the buildings they have, let's see a picture of his house(s) that was bought by ambulance chasing and taking all of that money from "big business"
