South Side disrupted by shootings, teen killed

Published: Fri, July 29, 2011 @ 6:06 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating two shootings that, almost simultaneously, disrupted the quiet in two South Side neighborhoods Friday afternoon and left a teenage boy dead.

Police were called to the corner of Evergreen Avenue and Summer Street shortly after 2 p.m. for a shooting between two factions of people.

One person involved in the shooting, a 17-year-old boy police have not named, was killed in the gunfire. Police Capt. Rod Foley said the boy was taken to the hospital where efforts were unsuccessful in saving his life.

"disrupted" by shootings? interesting way to put that, as if it's just a little annoyance to the neighbors...

Another day on the Southside where nobody cares about anything. They produce the non productive, drug dealing, shoplifting, baby producing (who they get to "rear"), uneducated, "I'd kill my own grandma for a twenty" thugs who have destroyed an entire City. I can already imagine the obit on the deceased. He was 17, a Baptist, also known as "Trouble" who enjoyed video games and rapping. He leaves behind a daughter of Columbus, a son In Akron and his twins of Youngstown. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and victims. His parents are in jail and he was reared by his poor relatives who will have to start a fund to bury him and his entire brood can suckle on the social teet as the sad cycle carries on.

The killing fields in Youngstown rage on, while the mayor skips town; the potus plays politics; uncle sam abandons the children; and the suburbanites blame the victims. A recipe for collapse.

Did I miss something? When did the southside neighborhoods become
quiet? Two factions of people= rival gangs and or drug dealers. And I am not talking Jets vs Sharks here.

I am @ a loss for words with the comments made about this story. A young person lost his/her life today. Unfortunately, now I am on the side of many of you who post about the lawlessness that prevails on the south side of the city. I don't agree with the blanket statements made about the people who reside on the south side, but I do agree with the fact that the "thug," culture is prevalent and needs to be addressed. The tune coming out of downtown about the city getting better is just crap. I'm @ a loss for what solutions can be made. After that Christian woman was brutally murdered last year I really thought that would be the last straw. However; it is business as usual. I haven't lived in this city in 7 years, and I am quite shocked that this city has rotted to the point of no return. I hate to be ignorant but I can't wait to take my college education, my taxes, and my happiness back out of this miserable place.

the best you can hope for is that "they" continue to kill each other, younger and younger before they reproduce.

I agree with all of you. I would usually open with something like "My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family" but I WON'T this time. The Youngstown "thug" is a dying breed. This 17 year old BOY was living the lifestyle of a gangbanger. He deserves EVERYTHING he got. I think they should keep shooting each other, only MORE frequent. The faster they kill each other the fast WE can take Youngstown back. There is only one difference between a 17 year old gangbanger getting killed and a 40 year old gangbanger getting killed. The 40 year old had a LOT more kids that WE are taking care of. I don't hate Youngstown. I hate the Welfare receiving, drug dealing, gangbangin' thugs that RUINED a great city and turned it into a S#1THOLE that NO one can live in, I got an idea. They HATE the outdoors so let's tear down the houses and issue them all tents. INCLUDING the Roach hotel on MLK Blvd. They spend 1 good winter in those tents, they'll either die or move. Anyway, this kid lived a dangerous lifestyle, he died, that's what happens. SO WHAT! I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR ANYONE! I don't care a darn bit!

Does anyone have more info on this kid than I do? He could of been an innocent bystander. Yes, we have a lot of violence on the South side, but the majority of people bring upon themselves. In my section it could be very quiet except for a store on the corner, but if you cross South Ave., nothing but trouble.

That was my nephew! The feelings you show towards MY NEWPHEW or any other kid for the matter is a reason why these kids show the same gutless feelings towards society. You may be right about the type of kid he was but he was somebodys kid! You guys suck man! RIP Braylen.....I love you the same like I loved your father, who was my brother! BTW he was murdered too.....I guess i deserve to lose all of that tho! Gods vengeance is more powerful than a bullet.....and all of our day is coming!

The blame rests on the shoulders of city hall for allowing this to go on . Jobs need to be generated on the SouthSide to eliminate 24/7 idle time that leads to crime .

Jobs are only the start. There also needs to be a moral code get started up and practiced as well. Civic responsibility, to include raising their children to respect the moral code is also vital.

Whatever their religious beliefs be, it can't be just being entered into a church/mosque at childhood. They need spiritual guidance, full time.

Jobs are a start. There has to be an incentive to study and to stay in school; there has to be an opportunity for them use that education and gain something from it.

The "easy" life with a Glock or Sig-Sauer is a stupid life and an illusion. History repeats itself in some ways. Look at the "yoots" of a long time ago who joined the gangs, looking for prestige, women and money. The street gangs and Cosa Nostra come to mind. And the same mindless, idiotic violence took place then. It became a national problem, so it got national attention and activity by law enforcement. The Treasury Dept and Justice Dept went after those mobs. And, to the best extent possible, they got some results.

The social killings in our cities and towns today cannot be halted by Treasury Dept. or Justice Dept. or even by police, because the breeding ground for it is inbedded in families living for decades on public assistance, low income housing, and poor family values.

Recently, I stopped in a quick store outside of my area to pick up some paper towels, bread and pop on my way home. The store was a nice and clean business and appeared to be a newly opened store. The family ahead of me in the checkout line was a sight to behold, disgusting to watch or listen to, and acted as if this was their first venture to a store in several years. The manager came out of her office and confronted one boy for putting something in his pocket without paying for it. The short, heavily obese mother swore at him, as if he was caught again. Another youngster, who appeared to be about 10 years old had no shoes on. What a time capsule of Life in America I was subjected to. And to think this goes on every day, every minute in America.

I think I'll continue shopping at my local store from now on. It isn't perfect, but the kids wear shoes.

Brown - How do you think they're going to work out their differences? By killing eachother - wouldn't be nice if they only killed eachother? They kill innocent people in the process, they kill innocent people to become a part of these gangs, which is really just a ghetto way of saying "My friends are cooler than your friends!" It's all immaturity and lack of respect, responsiblity and guidance.

bsdtdw - Perfectly written. Just like the rest of the gang bangers in this horrid city.

Somebodykids - Maybe you should have played a more vital role in this 'thugs' life. Or turned your knowledge of his actions in to the authorities, he may be in jail, but that's better than dead. People stand idly by every day and assume someone else will handle it, or I don't want to get involved. If each person says that, NO ONE gets involved. I'm sorry you lost a relative, truly, but by your words you give notice to his actions and that you were aware of his affiliations/crimes, yet you did nothing.

Somebodykids, That kid may have been your nephew but NO ONE CARES! He got killed living the same thug lifestyle his "father" lived. There are only 2 ways out of that lifestyle, DEAD and DEAD. I'm not gonna say that it was "his fathers fault for not being around to raise his kid". I will however say YOU ANIMALS SHOULD BE CASTRATED AT BIRTH! Since no one in your family took the initiative to stand up and raise this kid and teach him right from wrong, YOU ALL pay the price. And the working man has to pick up the tab for the funeral of some thug who, given the chance would kill the person who dontated money to bury him. Unfortunately, no one cares. They dont care because that thug would have raped some girl, sold drugs to some kid who would have OD'd and died, killed some innocent person who accidentally bumped into him at a store, OR MAYBE KILLED AN INNOCENT OLD LADY LEAVING CHURCH. The Youngstown scum that I refer to IS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! You have ruined a whole city but doing this crap. Its not a new thing. You scum have been at it for years. I dont feel a darn bit sorry. In fact I encourage your family's stupidity. maybe if more of you were gangbangin', we wouldnt have to wait so long to get Youngstown back and start to rebuild the war zone you animals created. Moral of the story, TAKE CARE OF YOU KIDS BEFORE YOU HAVE TO PLANT THEM!

Stan, Jobs wont do ANY good if you have animals who dont wanna work because "living on welfare is easier". They open a store in Youngstown it get robbed 6 times in the first week. They don't want to work for a living. They would rather rob places, sell drugs, turn out hookers, and gangbang. Work is for decent white people trying to actually PAY their bills.

Brown, Its spelled TROOPS. Maybe we can get the military to come "fix" Youngstown. It would be a sight to see tanks moving down South ave. and Apache's flying in formation down Indianola. Killing every scattering cockroach that comes out of the shadows to make that "last deal". KILL 'EM ALL, LET GOD SORT 'EM OUT! It would be like an old Orkin commercial.

It's not the "wrong place at the wrong time", it's the "wrong lifestyle and the wrong (if any) values/morals. The endless justification of useless lives ruining the City, just compounds the problem. They are running out Grandparents who have a pension or SS or SSI to rear their kids. It's gonna get worse. The WWII generation is dying off leaving the streets and the jail warden/ambulance driver to deal with these thugs. Stay tuned because the retaliation will soon begin and nobody saw nothin' will be the witnesses response. The sad cycle of another teen gunned down will be tomorrows news.

Jobs won't work. Nothing will work for these young wanna be gang bangers! Once again how many young black males do you see working ANYWHERE??? Next time your out and about, notice the lack of them. But when your driving around and you see a pack of these animals, 100% there dealing drugs, setting up a score, planning a robbery, etc. Look at there social sites, disgusting filth and everyone of them has under Income: $250,000 and up. Yea right. Worthless waste is all they are.
And the same old same old, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, he had morals, he was this and he was that, dude is DEAD at 17, because of NO morals, NO respect, NO ambition but to be a gang banger, and on and on.
And the community don't need to raise the kids from the worthless parents, the PARENT or parents need to raise them. Houser MURDERS a senior citizen at a CHURCH and what does the parents do? End up in jail with the worthless POS for threatening a WITNESS! What happened to the community from the YSU shooting! Same old same old. Nothing changes but the players buried six feet under. Let them kill each other but leave the INNOCENT ones alone.
They have EVERY opportunity to better themselves with all the special things just for blacks. Grants, scholarships, etc....made up just for blacks. So that is no excuse either.
It's all excuses for them...everything under the sun, but always the same ending......nothing changes....
