New Middletown sets National Night Out
The village’s annual National Night Out celebration, one of the biggest in the area, is set for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
The evening will begin with a 6:30 p.m. parade that starts at Springfield Local High School and proceeds to St. Paul the Apostle Church. Lineup for the parade will be at 5:30 p.m.
The evening will feature food, music, a cookout, a K-9 demonstration and more at Welker Park behind the Municipal Building on Main Street.

Roxfest rolls Aug. 20
The fourth annual Roxfest will be Aug. 20 at Buffalo Hollow, 51367 Dickson Road, with 13 bands, food, beer, vendors and camping for $12.
Gates open at 10 a.m., and bands start at noon. Official lineup for Roxfest 2011 in no particular order is : Skullz’R Bane, Metalourd, Shame, DisgraceD, One Bad Mutha, The Devize, Otis, Memories of Sunday, Chapless Larry, Magma Project, Just One Entity, Dead II Me, and International Band N.O.T.E.
Included in the admission price is free parking, free tent camping and free showers. There will be food, beer and merchandise vendors. No glass bottles or ATVs allowed.
Directions: take U.S. Route 224 through Poland, follow state Route 170 to Petersburg, just off 170 between Poland and Unity. Look for Roxfest signs and the covered bridge.
New Cortland library
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library board of trustees approved plans for construction of a new 10,636-square-foot building to house the Cortland Branch Library. Total cost of the project will be about $2 million, and the new building will be on 2.82 acres of land on Lakeview Drive. The library system purchased the land in 2001.
The new building will include a youth programming area and a meeting room that will accommodate up to 40 people. The number of public computers will increase from 5 to 12, as will the number of parking spaces from 32 to 80.
Employers sought for internship forum
The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University will host an information session Aug. 4 for employers interested in the college’s internship program. The session begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and a program from 8 to 9 a.m.
The information session will feature an overview of the WCBA’s internship program, the steps involved in establishing an internship opportunity through the college, the benefits of internships, tips to effectively recruit students, and the expectations of host employers.
