Pa. mayor faces child-porn charges

NESQUEHONING, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania mayor has been charged with downloading child pornography.

The Carbon County District Attorney’s Office says Coaldale Mayor Richard Corkery faces 28 counts of possession of child pornography.

Corkery declined comment when reached at his home this afternoon. His attorney, Nicholas Quinn, was out of the office and couldn’t be reached.

Nesquehoning police began investigating Corkery in April and say they found several pornographic images of underage boys when they searched the mayor’s computer at WLSH-AM radio. Police say that only Corkery had access to the computer at the time the photos were downloaded.

Corkery was scheduled to be arraigned late this afternoon.
