Woman says Boardman neighbor shot her swimming pool

Published: Tue, July 12, 2011 @ 11:20 p.m.

A township woman told police she was sitting on the deck of her Pheasant Court home at 10 p.m. Monday when she saw a neighbor open his rear window, point a gun at the above-ground swimming pool and shoot a pellet into the bottom.

Police said they recovered two pellet fragments and the woman was able to patch the inside of the pool to stop the water from pouring out. The woman said the swimming pool side wall liner was valued at $1,000.

Careful and Caution in Huntington Woods Boardman!

Wow, this neighbor just opens a window and fires off his gun?!

Thank goodness this lady didn't get shot and Thank goodness she observed exactly what happened. Just curious if gun was taken from irresponsible owner.

@VindyPost, it was a PELLET GUN! You are either a raging idiot, you REALLY need to work on your reading comprehension, or you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about guns. Tell me please, Who would steal a pellet gun? People like you are the reason why everyone has to take hunters safety courses and CCW classes. YOU should NEVER consider buying any type of gun!

The guy probably works nights and has probably had multiple conversations about trying to keep the noise at a decent level so he can sleep. Still not an excuse for shooting the pool with a pellet gun but I can see his frustration.

What did the pool owner do to push this guy to this level?

How do we know that the pool owners kid didn't shoot a hole in the pool while shooting at birds or rabbits and just made up a story to get the neighbor to pay for it?

I'm not saying the guy is innocent but people need a reason to do things like this!

Excuse Me Sweetness?!

It doesn't matter if it was a pellet or a bullet...that lady could have lost an eye! No excuse for behavior like this. It's still criminal damaging to ones property, perhaps harrassment. (if she considers to file) Let's permit bb's shot at people, cars, animals, etc in the neighborhoods. Then what's next? It develops from here. I do think the gun should have been seized from this individual (kid) by the authorities. usnboy... I have no idea where you read someone stole a pellet gun.

Ok, if you haven't figured it out by now IM FAR FROM SWEET! Oh, it certainly DOES matter whether it was a pellet gun or a real gun. Real guns are built to kill! You need to stop watching "A Christmas Story". Do you know how hard it is to shoot someone's eye out? How many people die from pellet gun wounds every year? The article stated that she was on her deck. Which I'm almost positive it wasn't anywhere near the bottom of the pool. What boy has never had an air rifle? I know I had them growing up. We even had wars in the field across the road. Believe it or not, NO ONE LOST AN EYE! We had some welts but that was it. If they would have taken the pellet gun he would have just went out to walmart and bought another one. You don't need a background check to buy a pellet gun. Now about the pellet gun. You stated "Just curious if gun was taken from irresponsible owner". In my book that is implying theft. I have multiple firearms. BIG ONES! If someone took one of them first they would have to break in to my gun cabinet but I would report it STOLEN! Would that make me an irresponsible gun owner? HECK NO! I would be a victim.

When I grow up? I have been all over this planet, places you could only dream of! I have lived better than most of you. I have made a LOT more than most of you. I have done and seen more in my 30 something years on Earth than all of you. You grow up REAL fast in the military. You have to! You either grow up fast or go home in a box! Most of you grew up in this area, worked in this area, and will die in this area never really seeing or doing anything outside this area. Its sad really. Think about it. What have you done with your life? At least I can say I've never collected welfare. I've only collected unemployment once for 2 weeks and I'm probably half your age and I'm RETIRED. Can you or anyone you know say that? I didn't think so!

Now, would I ever fire anything at my neighbors property? No! I know my neighbors and they are great people. I'm not saying its ok to shoot at anyones property. I'm saying he had to have a reason to shoot a pellet gun at his neighbors pool. No one in their right mind just shoots at their neighbors property without a reason. If it was a kid, he was probably jealous because he couldn't go swimming. If it was an adult, he had a dang good reason. My point is there IS A REASON FOR THIS INCIDENT! YOU DONT GET IT AND NEVER WILL!

NO reason to shoot on someones property. BB gun, pellet, rifle, etc......none whatsoever. Pitiful.

Mose and I have a swimming hole on the beet farm. It's guarded by bears so no one can shoot pellets at it.

Perhaps the neighbor had a vision that some one was going to drown in that pool and was merely trying to save a life by draining it . The big question is,did the lady have the proper permits for that pool ? Was it in a fenced and gated enclosure ?

I always thought it was interesting that we say "fire" a pellet gun when there is no combustion involved in propelling the round. Just CO2 or compressed air. That being said, pellet guns are available with muzzle velocities of 1000 fps. A well-aimed round could seriously hurt an individual and possibly kill them. Or, at the very least, cause a very serious infection. I think there is more to the story than is being told.

@Peoplesrepublic, I get that response a lot around here from people who don't know their butt from a strawberry patch. You are another idiot to add to the list of haters. Have fun working a senseless job until the day you die because you've never been the sharpest crayon in the box. I don't have grandparents that are still living and I OWN my own custom built home. Nice try though! If you can't figure out how I retired at 30SOMETHING call your local Navy recruiter. He can answer ALL your questions for you. Obviously you know nothing about me. STOP GUESSING! YOU SUCK AT IT! Now quit humpin' gramdmas cat, get off your fat lazy butt, get off welfare, leave this area and find a REAL job!

Easy now Navyboy, you can make your points without going psycho on us.
You ran around playing sailor boy for 20 years and are now retired? Why not go out and put your strong opinions and worldly knowledge to good use in making this a better community. Or, are you just going to sit on your butt and collect government money for the next 40 years?

You see, the VA WILL NOT finance a cardboard box. Dont be jealous! I think your recruiter lied to you. Dont feel bad! they get paid to lie to people. I was medically retired. I guess you cant get hurt behind the desk that recruiter was sitting at. I carry a blue RETIRED ID Card. so, stop getting keyboard tough and go back to your "great job" at McDonalds. Again UNLIKE YOU I dont HAVE to work. the faster you get that through your thick skull the better.
