Boardman man faces drug-trafficking charge

BOARDMAN — A 19-year-old township man is facing a drug-trafficking charge after a weekend car crash with an off-duty police officer.

John William Fithian, of Oakridge Drive, struck an off-duty Boardman police officer on Mathews Road around 2 p.m. Saturday, police said.

According to police reports, officers smelled marijuana and asked to search his car. Police said they found $600, a digital scale and 66 grams of what appeared to be marijuana packaged in small bags.
