COLUMBUS (AP) — Black state lawmakers are demanding Ohio Gov. John Kasich appoint minorities to his cabinet — even if it means getting rid of some of his current picks.
The members appointed to Kasich’s cabinet so far are all white.
Kasich has said he’s assembling a strong cabinet without regard for race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus says the GOP-led Senate should refuse to confirm his cabinet members until Kasich picks minority candidates for the jobs.
The group has set up an e-mail address for minority candidates to send in resumes for state jobs. They say they’ve also requested a meeting with the governor.
Kasich has previously met with some of the caucus’ members. A message seeking comment was left with his spokesman.

How is that not racist that you demand that someone lose there job to some one else since they dont have the right skin color?
the thing is, groups like this and the naacp depend on racism and what they perceive as racism or else they would not be able to milk the citizens for donations and federal grant money....which is why they play the race card at every possible turn.
best person for the job? nah, forget that. hire the black guy even if he's far less qualified.
Kasich's choices are just fine the way they are. There's absolutely no need to make any changes. Leave it to some people to play the same old card from their deck.
Why is there this presumption that if a black person is hired he or she is automatically less qualified than a white counterpart? That is just ridiculous and shows the base racism of most posters on this board.
Secondly, no one said hire some incompetent black person. The request is to hire competent minorities in numbers comparable to the percentage of blacks living in the state. For Kasich to say he cannot find such minorities is an outright lie.
Thirdly, dodge2002 please stop showing your apparent wealth of ignorance. If you bothered to do any research you would see that there are more whites on welfare than blacks and the numbers are growing for both races. The bigger question is what does that have to do with this topic...
We will probably see the ACLU involved in this also. It would only be racism if a black lost his/her job in order to hire a white. What you are seeing here is a example of realism. Reverse discrimination is okay I guess!!!
Most reasonable black people don't feel this way. Most of us want a qualified person to be placed in the proper position where they can do the most good.
Unfortunately a small minority of blowhards who make their living (or keep their name in the public space) by bringing up these sort of issues. If the NAACP is fighting REAL instances of racism and inequality and can prove someone has been passed over on account of their race, then I'm all for it, but this is just exploitation.
sorry, i don't buy it. as far as i'm concerned, we're all americans and all ohioans. nobody needs separate representation based on color of their skin. wanting to separate yourself from the rest of the population is racism in itself.
there's plenty of asians and hispanics living in ohio, and i don't see any of them crying about lack of hispanics or asians in kasich's office. they need to just shut up and let him try to do his job. i didn't even vote for him, but this is just absurd.

How about this for a quota system? Find out the % of blacks who voted for Kasich and then hire that %. Ill bet that would not like that quota system.
...how about, instead, he be fair and do the state a favor. Hire the best qualified for the positions, regardless of their color. Does the same logic you have stated apply to the NFL and NBA also.Should we insure that Brain Surgeon's are hired based on a quota system(there would be a lot of unemployed Asian Doctors if that is the case). Lets us not forget about the Native Americans they deserve a quota slot also dont you think.
It is a dream world that you live in if you think that the GOP party leaders are going to listen to the Black Leaders of the Democratic party after all they are a very small groop that happens to be in the opposition party, namly the Democrats.
