Two major details missing from Mahoning Valley racetrack and resort proposal

BOARDMAN — As a news conference began late this morning concerning the proposed $300 million Mahoning Valley Downs racetrack and resort, two major details remained secret.

One of the promoters, Rick Lertzman, of the Mahoning Valley Development Group, said at the beginning of the news conference that he would disclose today neither the location of the proposed facility nor the names of the national corporate partners in the project.

He said the developers have 200 acres committed to the project and seek to add an additional 500 acres, but the real estate contracts have not been signed, he said.

He did say, however, “The Mahoning Valley is one of the sleeping giants of Ohio.” He characterized the project as “one of the most exciting things to come to the Mahoning Valley in many, many years.”

He and his partner, Dr. Bradford Pressman, a retired podiatrist, have been working on the project for two to three years, he said. Both are lifelong Ohioans. Lertzman is a former business consultant. Both men reside in Cleveland.
