Austintown’s seventh-grade red girls basketball team defeated Warren 15-6 Jan. 6.
Falcons win big
The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade boys blue basketball team defeated Youngstown Christian 46-33 Jan. 10.
Derrin Hall led the way for the Falcons with 11 points.
Patrick Gerberry had eight points and Tommy James and Michael Bianco added six.
Dylan Strong and Michael Evanko each scored four and Deonte Brown shot for three points.
Coday Lunkis and Gino Rozzi added two points.
Nominate an athlete for the Fitch Hall of Fame
The Fitch Athletic Hall of Fame will be accepting nominations until Feb. 25. for its upcoming 2011 class.

Boardman Center beats AMS Blue
The Austintown Middle School seventh-grade girls Blue team lost to Boardman Center Middle School 23-14 Jan. 6.
Alex Franken led the Falcons with six points, followed by Julia Dolak with four points and Soriya Rezaupourian and Maia Totterdale with two points each.
Falcons fall to Bulldogs
The eighth-grade Blue boys basketball team lost to the Poland Bulldogs Jan. 5 at Poland, 43-32.
Patrick Gerberry and Derrin Hall led the Falcons in scoring with seven points.
Tommy James and Gino Rozzi added six and Dyland Stron, Nathan Shivley and Deonte Brown scored two points each.
Community baseball sign-ups start today
Registration for Austintown Community Baseball and Fastpitch Softball will take place today, Sunday, Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Stryffeler Indoor Training Center at Champ Field, 600 N. Raccoon Road.
Registration fees for boys ages 5-6 are $75, 7-8 $80, 9-12 $90 and 13-18 $135. Fees for girls ages 5-8 are $75, 9-12 $85 and 13-18 $135. Families with two players and three players are eligible for a multi-player discount of $5 and $30, respectively. If more than three family members sign up, they will not be charged.
Registration includes registration fee, uniform, trophies for ages 8 and under, championship and runner-up trophies in all divisions and use of the indoor training facility for children ages 7 and older.
Interested players must bring a birth certificate, registration form, medical release and waiver/release to register.

Basketball tournament scheduled for February
Austintown will host a boys and girls fifth and sixth-grade basketball tournament at Austintown Middle School Feb. 11-13, 18-20 and 26-27.

Last-second basket gives AMS Blue team win
Patrick Gerberry scored with 10.6 seconds left and helped the Austintown boys Blue team to a 26-24 win over Boardman Center Dec. 18.
Leading scorers for the team were Gerberry, nine points; Deonte Brown, seven points, Gino Rozzi, five points and Tommy James, four points.
AMS Red team strikes gold
The Austintown Middle School Red eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Warren Gold 61-28 on Jan. 6.
Alex Cho led all scorers with 11, while Jake Bullen and Zack Carr dropped in nine a piece. All players scored in the game.
