Marshall leads Akron over Kent St.
Zeke Marshall scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Akron beat Kent State 65-62 on Saturday night in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Brett McKnight finished with 19 points for the Zips (10-5, 1-0), who have won three straight and six of their last seven games.
Rodriquez Sherman led Kent State with 19 points, Michael Porrini scored 12, Randal Holt had 11 and Justin Greene added 10. The Golden Flashes have lost three in a row.
Eastern Michigan 71, Toledo 48
Brandon Bowdry had 19 points and 13 rebounds and the Eagles led by double-digits the final 13 minutes of the game and closed with a 13-3 run over the final 5:51.
Freshman Reese Holliday had his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Rockets (3-12), who have lost three games in a row.

Jarrod Jones grabbed a double-double, scoring 25 points and pulling down 12 rebounds as Ball State held off Northern Illinois.
The Cardinals (9-4, 1-0 Mid-American) went ahead early in the first half and never trailed after that.
Jauwan Scaife added 17 and Chris Bond scored 10 for the Cardinals.
Tim Toler led the Huskies with 22 points as Xavier Silas scored 15, Jeremy Landers 13 and Nate Rucker 10.
Bowling Green 74, Buffalo 71, 2 OT
Danny McElroy made a jumper with 24 seconds left in double overtime to give Bowling Green the win.
Buffalo’s Mitchell Watt sent the game into double overtime on his layup with two seconds left. The Bulls led 71-69 lead in the second OT when Bryon Mulkey made a jumper with 3:54 to play, but was held scoreless the rest of the way.
