LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man rushing to get his pregnant wife to the hospital says he was given a state police escort, and then a speeding ticket.
John Coughlin says he’ll fight the ticket, but the state police say it was deserved.
Coughlin hit a speed of 102 mph on Sept. 18 as he rushed to a Manchester hospital with his wife.
When a trooper tried to stop them, the Coughlins called 911 and said the baby was coming. The trooper then turned the pursuit into a hospital escort.
WMUR-TV says baby Kyle was born six minutes after they reached the hospital.
The trooper congratulated Coughlin on the birth of his son and then handed him a ticket.
State Police Major Russell Conte says the trooper did the right thing, contending Coughlin put his wife, unborn child, himself and the public at risk.

So when ambulances and *ahem* police officers are speeding at 100+ MPH, even in the name of health and safely, that's completely safe and justified; but a person trying to get their own spouse to the hospital in time is putting the entire world at risk. Major Conte must be able to see a lot from that high horse he is sitting on. Too bad he can't see his own hypocrisy from there.
Well said Mark. I would sooner trust the man driving, whose passenger is his wife and unborn child, than someone whose speed limit is a perk of the job.
I would assume that police officers and ambulance drivers have had some kind of special training in high speed driving in traffic whereas the man whose wife was pregnant did not and could have caused an accident being reckless. I am sure he was pretty agitated trying to her to to the hospital. 102 mph is pretty fast, he could have gotten them all killed or killed someone else. I think he deserved his ticket.
Mark...ahem...you are a loser.
