COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov. John Kasich has signed a bill that’s key to a campaign promise he made to transfer the state’s job-creation functions to a semi-private, nonprofit corporation.
The bill sets up a framework for JobsOhio and its nine-member board that Kasich would chair and pick. It directs the Department of Development’s interim director, Mark Kvamme, to see what agency duties could go to JobsOhio.
Kasich says he will appoint Kvamme to the JobsOhio board.
The legislation zipped through the GOP-controlled Ohio Legislature this week. It won bipartisan support in the Senate after lawmakers changed it to address concerns about ethics and public access. Most House Democrats said those revisions didn’t go far enough.
Many public records, open meetings and ethics laws would not apply to the entity.
