Free circus tickets for cans of food


The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will once again give away tickets to help stock the shelves of Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, every person who brings at least 10 cans of food to Covelli Centre will receive a ticket voucher to one of the seven Ringling Brothers performances March 25-27 at Covelli.

There will be a limit of four ticket vouchers per family and a limit of 400 total vouchers that will be given away.

“Last year we collected 4,126 pounds of food at this event, and we’d love to increase that number this year,” said Michael Iberis, executive director, Second Harvest Food Bank.

Tickets for the circus are $12, $17, $35 and $70, and are available at the Covelli box office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Show times are 7 p.m. March 25; 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 26; and 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 27.

Western Reserve PBS has expressed concern over the House Appropriations Committee’s upcoming vote on a proposal to completely eliminate federal funding for public broadcasting. “If the proposed legislation passes, public broadcasting as our viewers know it will cease to exist,” said Trina Cutter, president and CEO of Western Reserve PBS. “It is vital that our viewers take action immediately and contact their members of Congress.”
