Derek Etto was sentenced Monday in juvenile court to probation in the baseball bat beating of a 15-year-old classmate.
Etto, 16, of Austintown, pleaded Jan. 24 at the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center to an amended charge of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
The teen originally was charged with felonious assault Oct. 14 in the Sept. 27 fight where the 15-year-old victim was hit with a baseball bat outside the Etto family’s South Edgehill Avenue residence.
During Etto’s Monday disposition hearing he was sentenced by Magistrate Richard White to probation, continued house arrest and anger management classes.
Magistrate White said Etto will also be required to undergo a mental health evaluation and pay $100 plus court costs. Restitution to the victim’s family is pending.

the moral of the story is that it's OK to show up in numbers to fight someone, because the person you attack will get in trouble if they defend themselves.
