Warren woman found shot to death

Staff report

Police are treating the death of a 20-year-old mother of three as a homicide pending further investigation by police and the Trumbull County coroner.

Sharmaine M. Delaney was found shot to death in bed in her apartment at the Hampshire House Apartments, 1380 Fifth Street SW, early Monday.

Police say she was shot once sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, but they won’t say where the bullet hit her or whether a gun was found at the scene.

A family member who stopped at the apartment Monday a little before 8 a.m. discovered her body and called 911, police said. Two of Delaney’s children were in the apartment. A third was with family members.

Police have questioned several people but have made no arrests, said Mike Currington, a Warren police detective.

Anyone with information is asked to call 330-841-2660.

Delaney had no criminal record in common pleas or Warren Municipal Court.

Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, county coroner, said Monday afternoon it was too soon to say whether Delaney’s death is a homicide.

The last homicide in Warren was May 9, 2010, when Rahman Warfield, 34, of McKinley Street Northeast and Steven S. Faison, 24, of Duke Avenue Southeast were found shot to death at Warfield’s house.

Karenda A. Hutsenpiller, 21, of Fifth Street Southwest was charged in those crimes and awaits trial.
