Gas pipeline expansion proposed

HOUSTON

A group of shale-related companies announced today a proposed expansion of the Texas Eastern pipeline system that will connect it with Ohio’s Utica and Marcellus shale gas supplies.

Spectra Energy Corp.’s Texas Eastern Transmission, LP, American Electric Power and Chesapeake Energy Marketing Inc., a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy Corp. are all part of the project.

The 70 miles of pipeline will be called the Ohio Pipeline Energy Network that will create an additional 1 billion cubic feet of transportation per day.

A binding open season for the OPEN project is planned for the first quarter 2012.

And it will create additional jobs in OHIO! But I don't understand why Chesapeake isn't partnering with Chart and Kirby Barges to liquify the ethane and NatGas and ship it down the Ohio river from Pittsburg to the Gulf Coast Dow cracker or elsewhere. Barges travel this route everyday, and we don't have to wait 3 to 5 years for the pipes!
