YOUNGSTOWN — State Rep. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, said today he plans to send a second open letter to Ohio House Speaker William Batchelder asking for hearings about fracking.
Fracking, the process in which water, chemicals and sand are blasted into rocks thousands of feet below the ground to unlock natural gas and oil, has come under fire because of its potential environmental concerns.
Hagan on Dec. 1 sent a letter to Batchelder — who has collected more than $70,000 in campaign contributions from oil and gas drillers the past decade — but said Batchelder has not responded.
Hagan has said he wants a moratorium on all drilling, including injection wells, wants House leaders to consider “a cautious and thoughtful approach for the extraction of these natural resources.”

Shut up Bob
Here he goes again, its been a week since this clown was in the news. Give Up Booby. There are people in this valley who really want to work unlike you. who feeds at the public trough doing nothing. I can't wait until you are out of all elective offices. You are a waste of taxpayers money. Go get a life Booby.
Shouldn't Hagan and the rest of the State Representatives/Senators DONE this checking/follow up BEFORE the drilling started? If these companies have the proper permits to drill ---LET THEM DRILL.
Only one type of hearing is needed: a mental competency hearing for Hagan.
Would someone from the democrat party please talk to this fool and get him to retire. He is an embarrassment. And if you intend on ever voting for this guy again you are a moron.
I totally agree with everyone coments above mine.
MEGA DITTOS!!!
I totally agree with everyones' comments above mine.
MEGA DITTOS!!!
I agree with State Senator Hagan, or Ohio Representative Hagan, or Mayor Hagan, or whatever he thinks he is. LOL!!
Weren't you, Mr. Hagan, at VM taking credit for your "help" in securing the $700 million investment into the plant in Youngstown to make pipe for the gas drilling industry?
Now you want to stop the process of the drilling of land which is directly why VM expanded, to make pipe for the drilling companies to extract gas and oil which will turn our community around?
I'm confused, Mr. Hagan, as you have been for years. Maybe another right cross to the chin would straighten you out.
Are you in favor of VM making pipes and being able to sell them to the gas industry or not?
Maybe a left uppercut to the chin would help you see the stars you saw that night a couple years back.
Please go back to the railroad, they really need you there. LOL.
Oh, why I'm at it, Mr. Hagan, why don't you introduce another individual mandate health care plan for Ohio you proposed 20 years ago, that you stole from Canada's "socialistic program"? Very creative! It flew like a lead balloon in Ohio. Kind of like two rail cars smashing head on, to put it on a level you can comprehend.
How's is Obama's hope and change working for you, State Senator, State Rep, Mayor, or whatever you think you are?
Don't you think Ohio voters passed term limits for a reason? It was designed to get rid of people like you and Mr, Gerbery: public suckers of our tax dollars who have embarrassed us time and time again, all at taxpayer expense.
Mr. Gerbery, why hasn't the Ohio Supreme Court ruling as far as public equity in education funding, the"rock of your campaign as Education Chairman," been incorporated? Ohio Supreme Court ruling's have to be adopted as law, right?
You were the head of the "Education Committee." Do you have an answer for us, State Senator or State Representative or whatever you want to be?
I see someone who wants to suck our tax dollars as as "retired" teacher (and a poor one at that), a double dipper as a elected official who circumvents the spirit of the term limits law? And to get their big fat PERS pension. True? I think so and will make sure voters know how much and how often.
It is are pathetic what is done by you lawmakers. I don't know how you sleep with with yourself knowing how you have ripped off your fellow citizens the way you have. Sad, sad, sad.
Merry Christmas,
The Taxpayer
Fracking is a problem in every state like WY, NY PA, NJ, and WVa that has it. Senator Hagan is right to ask the hard questions. Yes the jobs are need, but at what environmental cost? Big Oil and Gas at their finest lying. Remember BP and the Gulf Oil Spill Disaster lies that were told at the time that have now come out!
"...asking for hearings about fracking." How about hearings on BIG EDUCATION!!
Everything in life has risks, and yes we all want 100% success with anything. However, to use a few bad occurrences as reason to shut down an entire industry is irrational and illogical.
One will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of Pizza face Hagan!
Amen to falconeddy. This incompetent trough feeder who is to lazy to do his job on the railroad to suck tax dollars from the trough needs to go. Anyone who voted for this do nothing, job killing representative needs to have the same mental competency hearing that AtownAugie suggested.
You should all be embarrassed. I've known Bob and his family for years and have been very active in the Youngstown area. He is the only person in the Mahoning Valley who has ever impressed me as a person, community member, politician, father and husband. And, if you’ve actually ever met the man and have senses, it should be obvious, within five minutes, that he has a constant obsession for improving the area that he loves...Having studied his history of actions, to be frank, he's one of the only competent leaders I've encountered. Also, if you studied the art of campaigning, you would understand that you're all defeating your own purpose by using these unwarranted, petty, uneducated and slanderous remarks. Comments like the ones I've seen here always backfire...I will hopefully see you all at the polls in the defense for the betterment of Youngstown.
