Ohio Turnpike tolls rise Jan. 1

Ohio Turnpike tolls rise Jan. 1

BEREA First the speed limit, now the toll rates.

The Ohio Turnpike announced Tuesday that toll rates will increase beginning Jan. 1.

Under the new rates, the cost to travel the entire 241-mile turnpike, from Indiana to Pennsylvania, will cost $16.50 for two-axle passenger vehicles, up from $15.

That cost will be $11.25 with an E-ZPass, up from $10.25.

Those with shorter commutes, like from Akron to Strongsville, won’t see an increase in rates.

The turnpike in April increased the speed limit from 65 to 70 miles per hour.

Customers can view 2012 rates online at www.ohioturnpike.org.

Just another rip off of the traveling public. Their employees took a pay freeze for 3 years. Now they are raising the rates WHY? So when it gets sold the new raises won't seem as high. Is that it.? They should cut out some of their mgnt staff, they are top heavy in bosses.

With the increase in prices, will we see an increase in proper society traveling?

Free of the dogs of society with their low class automobiles and attitudes?

I can't wait to see what tea and scones will be served at the rest plazas.

Music from Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli being broadcast throughout the rest plaza campus.

The increase seems reasonable. The turnpike is in great shape. Stop being so grinchey, taxpayers. The workers deserve a raise for their great work on keeping the turnpike safe.

Most of it is paid for by out of state drivers. A reduced rate for Ohio residents would be be a great idea, however.

Merry Christmas! Keep up the good work!

pwhite you dont have a clue what you are talking about. The rate for semi's on the turnpike are in the HUNDREDS and those rates are getting increased too. YOUR groceries, furniture, paper, etc etc comes via truck on turnpikes. The manufacturers and trucking companies are not paying those tolls, WE ARE. It trickles down to us as higher prices on the shelves. In the meantime, toll workers are being reduced by the introduction of EZ pass. I refuse to get EZ pass. Those workers deserve their jobs.

CassAnn, your're speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

I agree, the price of consumer goods will increase because of higher freight costs.
But, you don't support controlling freight costs by refusing EZ pass, in favor of higher costing toll workers who are nothing more than cashiers?

JME, How can you support replacing workers with machines to save a dime when we already have a serious job shortage here in the U.S.??? EZ Pass is nothing more than a way for the toll roads to make more money and give nothing back in return. I am not speaking out of both sides of my mouth, I am talking about balance.
