CVCA dominated a short-handed Canfield Cardinals hockey team, beating the Cards 11-1 in Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League action at the Ice Zone.

Sophomore Nick Crescimanno scored the lone Canfield goal on a power play with assists coming from freshman Braden Falkingham and senior Scott Schilling.

The Cardinals were without the services of four players due to injuries and school issues. Back-up goaltender Megan Cole stopped 20 shots in the net for Canfield.

Senior soccer player earns national honor

Canfield senior Kendyl Carlisle has been named to the National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America’s (NSCAA) 2011 Girls’ High School Scholar All-America team. She is one of only 35 girls nationwide to be selected.

This past fall, she was a team captain and fourth-year letterwinner for coach Phil Simone’s Lady Cardinals, who were Division II district champions.

Carlisle has a 4.0 GPA and is tied for first in her class academically. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Young Leaders service club and the Drama club. She and her older sister, Katie, a former Canfield soccer standout now playing women’s soccer at Notre Dame College, are the daughters of Douglas and Kristin Carlisle.

Sean Baker of Canfield was among eight Ball State football players named to the All-Mid-American Conference teams, which were selected by the league’s head coaches. Baker, a senior defensive back, was named to the first team. Baker was a 2010 All-MAC second-team selection who set the Ball State career interception record as a junior and added to that mark in 2011. He ranked third for the Ball State Cardinals with 95 tackles despite missing two games because of an injury. Baker added two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, one force fumble and one fumble recovery in 2011.

Keller selected for Queen of Diamonds

Kayley Keller of Canfield High School has recently been selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North (QDSN) at Kent State University on Jan. 7 and 8. This showcase is very unique as athletes actually ‘apply to’ this event individually and are selected based on many criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, grad year, coaches requests and referrals.

Keller plays center field for the Cardinals and also plays for Valley Extreme in the summer.
