Space heater causes fire that destroys Campbell family’s home

Staff report

Campbell

An upstairs bedroom space heater started a fire that destroyed a family of seven’s home Sunday.

Capt. Gene Skelley from the city fire department said the natural gas had been cut off to the home on 112 Regent St., and the family was relying on space heaters to keep their house warm.

The fire started at about noon, and Poland, Struthers and Coitsville fire departments were called to assist Campbell in controlling the blaze, Skelley said.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Red Cross is taking care of the family.

Typical Youngstown scum! If they had these things called JOBS they wouldn't need to use space heaters! If they can't pay their gas bill, what makes you think they can pay their taxes to pay the firefighters salaries? Well, when the Red Cross gets tired of housing them, feeding them, and clothing them they'll throw them back out on the street where they belong and will end up at the rescue mission...sounds like a drag on the economy and the community. If we would stop helping these scum maybe they would stand up on their own two feet and be a productive part of society. No one ever helped me! I never asked for help! Why? Because I'm a successful part of society and will do whatever I have to do to support my family! Why can't these losers support themselves?

@USNBOY413 I must say your comment floored me. Be grateful that your life is going well. Who knows the reasons these people couldn't pay their gas bill. Illness? Lost jobs? Disability? Medical bills? Elderly? Why, why, why are we so quick to make negative judgements without knowing the whole story. 12 days before Christmas and they lost everything. You are right they are losers in that regard. No one ever helped you...good for you, but sometimes helping others or having compassion (regardless of who or why they suffer hard times) is much more rewarding. Try it sometime.

@ USNBoy413...WOW...You should change your call sign to Scrooge. Unbelievable. You don't know their story. You don't know anything about them. If you want to look at scum, look in the mirror. Oh, and I'm sure your family is very proud of you right now...very proud. Glad things are going so well for you and I'd be careful...you may be in their position one day and need help in some way....good luck with that.

An extra ten bucks a week on gas users could pay for those who can't afford gas . . ..

Very surprised to see these uninformed comments by @ USNBoy413 .

@ USNBoy413 has recently twice taken others severely to task for doing the same thing he now does.
